Oddie’s First Rookies Win at Cooloola

press release

Inox supported kart racer Harrison Oddie had a near perfect race score at Cooloola Coast Kart Club last weekend.

The HDR Rookie driver started from position 4 in the 10 Kart Rookie field and finished 1st in Heat 1 for the day.  Race 2 was a little tougher with a position 6 start, but the young Gympie driver delivered yet another equally impressive drive into 2nd place, in the second of the two 6 lap Heats.

Having scored best points total during the Heat racing, Harrison started off Pole for the 8 lap PreFinal.  Although being pipped by Callum Ryan on the opening lap, Oddie pursued the number 25 Kart for 5 laps, before making a pass for the lead.  Oddie then held on in the remaining laps to take the PreFinal Chequered flag ahead of Ryan, Wyatt Davidson, Damon Ash and Dylan Overland.

Although winning the PreFinal guaranteed Oddie a Pole Position for the Final Grid, Ryan again made his move early at the start of the 10 lap race, but kept young Harrison at bay all race long this time.  Ryan went on to cross the line first, leading all 10 laps of the journey, with the blue / green racer Oddie in hot pursuit.  Wyatt Davidson, Damon Ash and Dylan Overland again followed the leading duo home.

With Ryan and Oddie so close on Points, it wasn't until the tally had been done that Harrison Oddie emerged as the overall Round winner for the day in the AKA Rookie Class by a single point.  He proudly stepped up on to the podium in his new 2011 Harrington Doyle Racing uniform to accept his first Trophy win in Rookies.  He professionally thanked all of his new sponsors, Team and his Mum & Dad for making this new Rookie season of Karting possible.

"It's tremendous to see both of our juniors [Harrison & Callum Walker] doing so well, early in the season", said Team Manager, Craig Doyle.  "Harrison and Callum are doing us proud, as we always believed that they would.  Team Oddie has been a great addition to our HDR Family this year and we are looking forward to all that they bring to the Team in 2011."

The Harrington Doyle Racing Team is racing at various local tracks in coming weeks in their lead up to Round 2 of the 2011 Australian CIK Stars of Karting Series to be held in Bolivar, SA on April 2 - 3.  The 4,800klm, 7 day round trip to South Australia in late March / early April will likely be their longest trip this season.
