Karting Decisions From World Motorsport CouncilThese are the latest decisions from the March 8 meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council with regard to karting: 2011 CIK-FIA «U18» World Karting Championship and CIK-FIA Academy Trophy In the U18 World Championship, points will be allocated to the 34 Drivers qualified for the Final (except those who did not take the start or were excluded), according to the following scale: 50-45-41-38-36-35-34-33-32-31-30-29-28-27-26-25-24-23-22-21-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7. Additional points, from 6 to 1, will also be allocated to the top 6 classified Drivers in the consolation event called the “B” Final, reserved for Drivers classified between the 35th and 68th places after the qualifying heats. An initial point allocation will take place after the qualifying heats on the basis of the standard scale for the top 15 classified Drivers of the intermediate classification (25-20-16-13-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1). The top 40 classified Drivers in the Academy Trophy will also be rewarded. In 2011, the number of participants will be increased from 34 to 51. After having qualified in the heats, 28 Drivers will participate in the two-part final phase: Race 1 and Race 2. After each race, points will be allocated according to the new scale: 50-45-41-38-36-35-34-33-32-31-30-29-28-27-26-25-24-23-22-21-20-19-18-17-16-15-14-13. The 23 Drivers having failed to qualify further to the heats will be invited to participate in a consolation event on the Sunday afternoon, the first 12 classified Drivers scoring a few points (from 12 to 1). As a reminder, entries for the U18 World Championship will be limited to 102. They will open from Friday 1st April (via www.cikfia.com). The entry fee now includes the renting of the standardised paddock structure (3x4.5m per Driver) preinstalled by the CIK-FIA. Engines and tyres will be supplied on a free basis to all Drivers. When the latter enter, they will only have to choose amongst the 15 entered chassis makes the one with which they wish to compete. Entries for the Academy Trophy will also be open from 1st April. A place amongst the 51 available will be granted per country.
