Vincec Dominates DD2 At West Palm Beach

press release

Mike Vincec once again has impressed at the Florida Winter Tour (FWT), this time during the second round at the Palm Beach International Raceway (PBIR) in Jupiter, Florida.  Coming away with two second place results in Orlando, the Stouffville, Ontario resident was thirsty for victory at PBIR and would not disappoint.

Nearing perfection, Vincec's only hiccup on the weekend was the qualifying session for Saturday's event. Earning the second fastest time of his competitors in the Rotax DD2 class, Vincec placed his PSL Karting.com CRG a mere 0.012 seconds off pole.  Flexing his Rotaxian muscles, the Canadian standout wouldn't look back the rest of the weekend.

After swapping the lead throughout Saturdays' prefinal, Vincec was able to secure the win setting himself up with the pole position for the final event. Losing the lead in the opening laps of the 20 lap final, Vincec was able to use the draft to his advantage tucking in behind the leader.  The 2008 eKartingNews.com Driver of the Year regained the lead on lap six, ducking in to make a clean pass through turn three coming off the ultra-fast front straight.  Pulling a gap off the second place kart as a battle for position ensued behind him, Vincec lead the remainder of laps and crossed the stripe 2.392 seconds ahead of second.  With this commanding win, Vincec would look to Sunday to continue his power streak.

Earning P1 in qualifying for Sunday's events, Vincec would again steer himself to another prefinal victory.  After a clean start in the final, the PSL Karting team member would fall back to the third position on the first lap.  Fighting his way back to second briefly only to fall back to third again, Vincec and the second place kart would work together to hunt down the leader who had pulled away from the pack.  Quickly closing in on the pace setter, Vincec would bide his time as first and second battled it out.  Slipping into the second position midway through the final and with the front three wheel-to-wheel, the fans packed the grandstands to witness the action on track.  With the laps winding down, the Canadian karting standout would position himself at just the right time to put his PSL Karting.com powered CRG into P1 and put an exclamation mark on the weekend with a second feature win.

"We came into this weekend to improve on our performance from Orlando and it began with two good starting positions for the races. We stayed focused and tried to make sure nothing happened on the starts that would take me out of the race and in the end we were able to capitalize on it," commented Mike. "All in all it was a fantastic weekend!"

Heading into the final rounds of the Florida Winter Tour, Vincec holds a commanding lead in the overall DD2 championship standings, 117 points clear of second.  With his eye on another trip to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, the 2007 Team Canada member will be on top of his game at the Ocala Gran Prix facility, host of the FWT finale March 25-27.
