Vic Superkarts, Round 2

press release

Round 2 of the Victorian Superkart Club 2011 series was held at Calder Park on Sunday March 20.

Matt Palmer drove to a convincing win in the STR Truck Bodies 250 Nationals class chased hard by Jason Shilton.  Australian Champion Marty Latta started well but was plagued by niggling problems for the rest of the day finishing in 3rd place.

In the Barry Plant Real Estate 125cc Gearbox class it was one point that separated first and second place at the end of the day while newcomer Robert Xerri starting from the rear of the grid for each heat finished a very credible 3rd.

In Rotax light, sponsored by Vendetta Wheels, the recent domination of the class by Russ Occhipinti was undermined by a hard charging Peter Strangis who made a clean sweep of the day. Brad Stebbing, Tom Cooper and David Webster fought hard for what was left of the results in each heat.

For the Vendetta Wheels Rotax Heavy, it was  a dream come true for Bobby Jane, son of Motor racing legend Bob Jane, who poled the kart, clean swept each heat, and set a new lap record for the Calder Park circuit. Whilst some may think that Bobby can practice on his own circuit anytime it is actually not the case. Second place went to Rod Clarke who fought hard with both Andrew Jackman and Mike Godsell to give his TWR team a fantastic weekend result.

Round 3 of the 2011 series will be at Winton on April 30 and will also feature Round 2 of the King of Karting KZ2 series.
