CIK Round 2 Qualifying: JAM Racing Show The Way

from Stars of Karting

The JAM Racing trio of Adam Hughes, George Geranis and Jake Spencer showed the way during qualifying day in round two of the CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol EDGE at the Bolivar Raceway in South Australia today.

While they may have been upstaged by defending Pro light (KF1) Champion Cian Fothergill during qualifying, JAM Racing dominated the three 20-lap heat races in their Kosmic karts.

“It has been a great day for the JAM Racing team with the highlight being the one-two-three in the second heat race,” said Hughes.

“I haven’t raced here since 2006 and that was the only time I’ve raced here, so you really can’t be happier than to win three from three.

“Tomorrow is going to be a tough day and it will be hard to stay there but hopefully we can maintain our place at the front of the field.”

After finishing third in the opening heat Fothergill was forced to sit out the second heat race when he was late arriving to the grid. He then finished well down the order in the final qualifying race after enduring a mechanical issue in the form up laps and will start 14th tomorrow morning.

Local driver Scott Taylor mixed it with the likes of David Sera and Matthew Wall at the front of the Pro Gearbox (KZ2) field. After starting on the front row the DR Kart pilot led the way during the opening two heats before succumbing to the pace of Sera and Wall, among others, during the late stages of the heat races.

Sera had superior pace all throughout the day and used his vast experience to take the victory in two of the three heat races. The only blemish was at the start of heat three when a mechanical issue dropped him to the rear of the grid – he still charged to seventh place at the finish.

Despite his seventh place finish in the last heat Sera will still start on pole position with Wall on his outside for tomorrow’s opening final. Kel Treseder and Lee Mitchener will occupy the second row.

A mechanical gremlin hampered Pierce Lehane’s performance during the day while Joseph Mawson was consistent to secure pole position for tomorrow’s opening final. Lehane will start fourth.

The pair were joined at the front of the field during today’s action by Western Australian driver Jake Klarich and Queenslander Brock Plumb who will start second and third respectively tomorrow. Also showing some strong speed throughout the day was Renee Gracie and second-generation driver Thomas Randle.

In the Yamaha Challenge local drivers Daniel Price, Nicholas Holmes-Karavas and Rocco Ventra led the way with series leader Lydon Dodge pushing hard towards the front of the Clubman field.

Local driver Luke Marquis won two of the heats in Junior National and will start on pole position for the pre-final tomorrow.

Ross Miller won all three Sportsman SA 125 heats.
