Breakthrough Win For Alex Guenette in Homestead

press release

Canadian Alex Guenette had a breakout weekend competing in the opening round of the Eastern United States Pan American Challenge held last weekend at the Homestead Karting facility on the grounds of the famed Homestead-Miami Speedway.  Running the Rotax Junior class with the always-competitive J3 Competition, Guenette claimed not only a victory, but also a new track record and was never outside the top-six in all official timed sessions.

Kicking off the day's events, Guenette clocked the second quickest time in Saturday's official practice session, two tenths off the pacesetter.  Turning up the wick during his qualifying run, the talented Montreal native scored the elusive pole position and put his name in the record books by setting a new track record with a time of 47.953.  Falling back slightly during the prefinal race to finish fourth, Guenette rebounded during the day's final to score the second step on the podium.

"Homestead has always been one of my favorite tracks. I've always been fast there. After the final on Saturday I was pretty happy with my second place result, but I knew we had to make a few changes to challenge for the win on Sunday," stated Guenette after Saturday's events.

Sunday saw Guenette place his Kosmic kart on the inside of row two for the prefinal after qualifying in third.  Losing two positions during the prefinal to finish fifth, Guenette looked to capitalize on his inside starting position for the main event.  That would not be the case however, as the rising talent was pushed out on the start causing him to fall back to the eighth place.  Putting his head down and turning quick lap times, the Montreal/Fort Lauderdale resident fought his way back to claim the victory!  Guenette was also able to claim the fastest lap of the race during his climb to the top.

"After falling back on the start, and I knew I had to stay focused to work my way back up. On the last lap I knew I had to pass Lazare, so I planned it out and passed him on the third to last corner.  I am so excited to score this win and have to thank everyone at J3 Competition," exclaimed an excited Guenette on his victory.

Guenette will return to Pan Am action for the second eastern qualifier, scheduled for May 20-22 at Michiana Raceway Park in South Bend, Indiana.
