A1 Engines - Qld Track News

press release

A1 Engines Queensland drivers Declan Fraser (Cadets), Brock Owen (Rookies), Jake Downs (Junior National light) and Alistair Ingram (Senior National Light) competed in the Sugar City Titles at Mackay. The two day meet attracted drivers from all over Queensland, creating some very close racing in all classes.

Alistair Ingram (1st) showed a clean pair of heals to easily win Senior National Light. Lights and Heavies were a combined class for the weekend with the lights at the rear of the field. Alistair carved his way through, not content with the ease of catching and passing the heavies, he handicapped his kart to run the same weight as the heavies for the final. Alistair had his work cut out but still recorded the win in lights and finished amongst the Heavies posting lap times quicker than the third placed heavy.

Junior National Light saw some close racing with Jake Downs taking 2nd for the weekend struggling with kart set-up, Jake had to adapt his driving skills to compensate for what was found out to be a bent stub axle. Jake recently won the 1st round of the CIK in Ipswich, then backed it up with a strong win at the Cooloola Junior Gold meet and was hoping to make it a hatrick at the Sugar City Titles. Jake is in fine form and looks set to continue his dominance at the young guns in Lismore.

Rookie driver Brock Owen (2nd) posted some quick times all weekend in his new 950 chassis and looked set for a win in the final, but after the 12 lap final he had to settle for 2nd. This is Brock’s first year in Rookies and he will definitely be a force showing some quick pace straight out of the box.

Cadet driver Declan Fraser (1st) won all 4 races convincingly before being challenge by a fast finishing Jay McGregor in the final. Declan was passed on the long straight of Mackay and had to fight his way back on the final lap to regain the number one spot to win by 0.02 of a second. Declan is looking to regain his form that saw him take out 2nd in the Queensland closed last year.

The A1 junior QLD team has headed to Young Guns at Lismore and hope to carry the form that has seen all drivers on the podium over the year so far.
