Three Black Plates For A1 Engines At Monarto

press release

On the 14 and 15th of May, several A1 Engines drivers raced to victory at the South Australian State Closed Titles held at Monarto Karting Complex.

Rhys Wooley, Chase Wooley and Todd Hazelwood all drove with superior speed and determination over the weekend at Monarto to claim three SA State Closed Titles for Brett Arnett of A1 Engines.

Rhys and Chase Wooley from RC Racing Team both went on to win convincingly with Chase taking home the black plate for the second year in a row in the Midgets category, whilst older brother Rhys Wooley racing in Rookies went on to win his first State Closed Title, having a clean sweep of being the fastest qualifier and race wins over the weekend. It was a fantastic display of team work and speed from the two Wooley brothers and also a great effort from their parents who helped them throughout the course of the weekend.

Fujitsu ‘Cool Driver’ Todd Hazelwood won his 4th State Closed Championship, winning in the Junior National Heavy class. With a strong field of speed and talent, the A1 Engines powered Arrow Kart went on to win, showing the rest how it was done by winning the final after having convincing wins over the weekend. Also racing in the Junior National Heavy class for the first time was young up-and-coming A1 Engines driver Dylan Howell who showed great pace all weekend, but unfortunately had a mechanical failure in the final.

Mt Gambier’s Josh Munn had a successful weekend racing in the Rookies class, finishing runner-up on the podium to A1 team mate, Rhys Wooley. Josh drove fantastically throughout the whole weekend setting fast lap times in the heats and leading a couple of laps in the final. He drove hard and fast to get his best result to date at a Closed State Title.

The only senior driver to race under A1 Engines at Monarto was John Dankowski from Mt Gambier. With superior speed in practice, John managed to grab pole position in the Sportsman SA class by 3 tenths! After strong heat results and a fantastic win in the pre-final, John started on pole for the final and looked good for a win until a collision with another driver on lap 6 saw John’s weekend come to a stop on turn one.

Congratulations to all of the A1 Engine drivers who raced well and showed great pace throughout the weekend!
