De Vries Whacks 'em In Wackersdorf

press release

Four races, four victories... Nyck De Vries could not have dreamed a better debut at the new CIK/FIA World KF1 Championship. On the Wackersdorf circuit, the Dutch kartman dominated his opponents on the track, set all the best lap times in the races and concluded with a 22-point advantage in the provisional standings. Once more, his Zanardi-Parilla from Chiesa Corse Team was a precious ally in Germany.

Podium-Nyck.jpgThe International Federation opted for a new racing format for the World KF1 Championship 2011, which brings together all the best hopefuls in today's karting. It will comprise five meetings (Germany, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Japan), with four races per weekend, with the three best results taken into account each time. After his excellent performances in the WSK Euro Series this season, Nyck De Vries showed a certain confidence on a circuit where he has always shown great competitiveness.

"I have always felt very much at ease on this winding layout, where curves leave very little respite. I was here in 2008 and 2009 for the German KF3 Championship and each time I set the pole position and won both finals!" Nyck said.

Two years later, he put up again a faultless performance. "I won the races with different types of tyre and I know that many people wanted to see how I would face this new challenge with the Bridgestone extra soft tyres used in the World Championship".

Thanks to his usual determination and talent, combined with hard work made by all his technical team, results were up to expectations, as explained by Nick himself: "Saturday was a bit more difficult than Sunday. In Race 1, there were a few drops of rain and the track became a bit slippery. I was only 4th at the start of the race. Lap after lap my grip increased, I managed to move to first place, and then I gained a good advantage. I had a few problems also at the start of Race 2, but this time it was a driver who tried to move me from my trajectory. So I fell to 7th! Then I pushed as hard as I could to regain some ground".

"On Sunday, I was still very competitive. I made the pole position and won Races 3 and 4 pretty easily. It is definitely a great result in the Championship, because I gained the highest points score and I prevented my opponents from getting the victory points in the race that I had to exclude".

This World KF1 Championship will continue in July on the Zuera circuit in Spain, where Nyck De Vries has conquered his most beautiful titles: the WSK Euro Series in 2008, the European KF3 Championship in 2009 and the CIK/FIA World Championship in 2010!
