Rookie Sits Second Half Way Through East Canadian Championship

press release

Austin Milwain, a member of the Sofina Foods Driver Development Program, is gearing up for a big weekend of Eastern Canadian Karting Championship (ECKC) action.  With Rounds #4 and #5 taking place this weekend at one of Milwain's favourite tracks, the up-and-coming pilot has his sights set on winning at the 1.5 km, 12-turn Mosport International Karting circuit.  The GreenSpeed Karting / Tony Kart pilot heads into the halfway point of the season second in the overall championship Rotax Senior points standings, and with a trip to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals (RMCGF) and spot on Team Canada on the line, stakes are high for the rookie driver.

As a member of Team Canada in 2010 as a Junior, Milwain has the ultimate goal of returning to the RMCGF in 2011, which will take place later this year at Al Ain Raceway in the United Arab Emirates.  With a strong start to the ECKC season, the 16-year-old has held true to his goal and will continue to fight hard throughout the remaining three events.

Starting off at Goodwood Kartways at the beginning of May, Milwain was able to open the series with a podium position in his first start as a Senior pilot.  Round #2 saw the Keswick, Ontario resident score another solid top-five position in the final, taking home a fourth place finish.  With the series heading to Trois-Rivieres for the third round, Milwain was able to match his finish from the previous event.  Fighting through stiff competition in the Rotax Senior class, the 2010 ASN Canada FIA Canadian Nationals podium finisher has been able to use consistency to his advantage but is still searching for that elusive victory.  A heavy schedule of both school and work has prevented Milwain from putting in the laps for testing and practice, however he has been able to show to speed and race up front with the big dogs.

"Running with the seniors has been very exciting with an unbelievable level of competition, and I am looking forward to racing against them at Mosport," stated Milwain as he prepares for the event.

Milwain will head to the famed Mosport circuit for official practice this Friday, June 24.  Round #4 and #5 of the six round series will hit the track Saturday and Sunday.  With the ECKC Mosport rounds being held in conjunction with the Rotax Pan American Eastern Canadian qualifying event, the competition will be even greater, but look for the talented Milwain to hold his own.
