Mitchener 16th After Dramatic Final In France

Lee Mitchener has come from the rear of the field, and endured a pit stop, to finish 16th at the Bruno Grana International Trophy meeting in France over the weekend.

Mitchener was running 4th in the pre-final and looking to move up when an engine problem sidelined him. “The engine was too lean and when I lifted off the throttle at the end of the straight the engine had ‘run on’ which is when the fuel continues to burn in the cylinder even when throttle is closed! Not ideal when you’re braking from 130km."

Starting up the back for the final, Mitchener was called into the pits on lap 6 because he wasn’t wearing a neck brace (which is regulation in France), dropping him back to 22nd. He had already charged to 9th in the opening laps and set fastest lap of the race, so one can only wonder where he could have ended up if not for the forced pit stop.

More from Lee once he files his event report with Remo Racing.
