Force India Formula 1 driver Paul Di Resta handed out the trophies at the fourth round of the Super One MSA/TKM Series on its visit to the Scottish Larkhall circuit.  He was supporting his brother Stefan, who stormed up from the back of the second KGP Final to make the podium.  Birel and BMB engine bosses Ronnie Sala and Carlo Boscolo visited the meeting to view the progress of their Formula KGP class and came away very satisfied.

Comer Cadet

Ross Martin beat Lando Norris to fastest in timed qualifying but neither would reach the podiums as Daniel Ticktum took both heats.  And once Ticktum and Josh Smith were dispatched in the first final, Jamie Caroline took charge, holding off a photo finish between Shanaka Clay, William Taylforth and Dean Macdonald.  For the second final, Ticktum just picked off his rivals one by one, until he was able to help push Taylforth clear of the pack.  Caroline had fallen out of his early lead, losing many places.  With a couple of laps to spare, Ticktum nipped ahead and defended to the line over Taylforth, Josh Smith and Ryan Anderton.  Norris had been taken off in the first final but reached seventh in the second, only to be pushed off on the last corner.  The results are provisional pending a judicial hearing to be held at the next meeting.

Final 1: 1 Jamie Caroline (Zip) 21 laps in 15m52.48s (41.93mph); 2 Shanaka Clay (Zip) +00.06s; 3 William Taylforth (Zip); 4 Dean MacDonald (JKH); 5 Josh Smith (Zip); 6 Daniel Ticktum (Zip).

Super Cadet

Billy Monger’s usual progress from being fastest in timed qualifying and winning the first heat, was thwarted after he and Owen Griffiths collided heavily in the second heat, won by Harrison Thomas.  Although Monger closed down the gap to Griffiths in the first final, he was unable to challenge, blaming a bent kart. Steven Prentice came in third.  For the second final, Monger caught Griffiths and passed him twice, but Griffiths out-witted the points leader at the last corner to make the best run to the chequered flag with Thomas and Prentice some way adrift.

Final 1: 1 Owen Griffiths (Wright) 22 laps in 15m53.59s (43.87mph); 2 Billy Monger (Birel) +01.88s; 3 Steven Prentice (Birel); 4 Matthew Taylor (BRM); 5 Matteo Zanetti (Wright); 6 Harrison Thomas (Birel).
Final 2: 1 Griffiths 22 laps in 15m52.47s (43.00mph); 2 Monger +00.08s; 3 Thomas; 4 Prentice; 5 Zanetti; 6 Taylor

Junior TKM

Danny Keirle was well on form for fastest in timed qualifying and taking both heat wins plus the first final.  But he had to constantly retrieve first place after strong challenges from Ryan Stronach before getting a break when Stronach had to defend from Jordan Irvine.  Jake Walker was a strong contender early in the race but fell away to fifth behind Oliver Basey-Fisher.  After being hung out to dry, Keirle stormed back to trade first place with Stronach and Stephen Letts in the second final.  He had just retrieved the lead  from Letts when Letts and Jack Partridge collided, tagging Keirle and causing a massive pile-up which blocked the track.  A marshal put out a red flag so the race was stopped and the result given with Letts in the lead over Keirle, Partridge, Walker and Stronach.  The latter was excluded, but has appealed which will be held at the next round, the results therefore provisional.

Final 1: 1 Danny Keirle (Jade) 24 laps in 15m58.52s (47.61mph); 2 Ryan Stronach (Jade) +01.98s; 3 Jordan Irvine (Tonykart); 4 Oliver Bassey-Fisher (Tonykart); 5 Jake Walker (Wright); 6 Toby Sowery (Intrepid).
Final 2 (Provisional pending appeal): 1 Stephen Letts (Tal-Ko) 14 laps in 09m52.86s (44.91mph); 2 Keirle +00.13s; 3 Jack Partridge (Jade); 4 Walker; 5 Matt Davies (Jade); 6 Lee Harrison (Tonykart).

TKM Extreme

Joe Porter made a clean sweep of timed qualifying and the heats, setting off badly in the first heat when his bumper got caught up with Michael West’s, letting Luke Graver briefly into the lead.  But soon Graver fell away, leaving Porter to battle it out over West with Ash Crossey next.  West had to fight past Crossey in the second final before attacking Porter, and when Porter rode briefly up the back of West’s kart he lost time to Crossey allowing West to escape and win.  Porter did manage to retrieve second at the end, with James Bartlett a distant fourth.

Final 1: 1 Joe Porter (Tonykart) 24 laps in 15m52.11s (47.94mph); 2 Michael West (Tonykart) +00.74s; 3 Ash Crossey (Tal-Ko); 4 James Bartlett (Tonykart); 5 Joshua Waring (ARC); 6 Will Van Es (Tonykart).
Final 2: 1 West 24 laps in 15m53.47s (47.87mph); 2 Porter +00.27s; 3 Crossey; 4 Bartlett; 5 Paul Monks (Tal-Ko); 6 Van Es.

KF3 MSA Junior British Kart Championships

George Russell took fastest in the qualifying and won both tumultuous heats before setting off with a big lead in the first final.  Roy Johnson pipped Connor Jupp and chased down the leader, only for Ben Barnicoat to vault past.  When Barnicoat finally caught Russell, he went straight for the pass, but Russell lunged back at the last corner putting Barnicoat wide bouncing off the barrier but surviving for fourth.  Johnson swept past both for the win, but Russell was penalised five places, so Matthew Graham came up to fourth over Jupp and Dylon Phibbs.  Come the second final, Russell only lasted a couple of laps before sliding wildly in to the barriers to restart almost a lap down.  Barnicoat, Callan O’Keeffe and Johnson fought over the lead but yet again Barnicoat found himself in the barriers at the last turn, this time more violently.  O’Keeffe was blamed and excluded but his appeal to the stewards was successful, although Barnicoat has appealed that verdict to the Motor Sports Council, claiming a gross miscarriage of justice.  Johnson slipped into the lead once more during the incident, O’Keeffe hanging onto second.  Darius Karbaley stormed up to third over Jupp and Alex Hamilton.  The results are provisional.

Final 1: 1 Roy Johnson (Topkart) 25 laps in 15m40.72s (50.54mph); 2 Callan O’Keeffe (FA Karts) +01.49s; 3 Ben Barnicoat (Zip); 4 Matthew Graham (Zanardi); 5 Connor Jupp (FA Kart); 6 Dylon Phibbs (Tonykart).
Final 2 (Provisional pending appeal to the MSC): 1 Johnson 25 laps in 15m47.76s (50.16mph); 2 O’Keefe +0.36s; 3 Darius Karbaley (FA Karts) +03.48s; 4 Jupp; 5 Alex Hamilton (FA Kart); 6 Graham.

Formula KGP

Michael Simpson topped qualifying, then shared the heat wins with Mark Litchfield, the pair expected to battle it out for the finals.  But as Simpson roared nearly two seconds clear, Litchfield succumbed to Denis Gorman, with Jake Hughes keeping a watching eye.  Eager to keep on terms with Simpson, Litchfield lunged at the last corner only for the two karts to hook up together and fall off the track.  Litchfield was later excluded.  Phil Smith inherited the lead, until usurped by Tom Fawcett.  Once Gorman had sliced past Smith, Justin Edgar tried to follow and the two contested the same part of tarmac until both came off.  Edgar was probably unfairly blamed and black flagged whilst a very aggrieved Smith was unable to restart.  Gorman had the pace to creep up and pass Fawcett for the win, with Stefan Di Resta storming through almost the whole field  for third after seizing his engine in the first final.

Final 1: 1 Michael Simpson (Birel) 25 laps in 15m48.53s (50.12mph); 2 Denis Gorman (Maranello) +01.66s; 3 Mark Litchfield (FA); 4 Jake Hughes (Birel); 5 Phil Smith (Tonykart); 6 Steven Napier (Tonykart).
Final 2: 1 Gorman 25 laps in 15m55.82s (49.74mph); 2 Tom Fawcett (Birel) +01.55s; 3 Stefan Di Resta (Birel); 4 Robert Shield (Intrepid); 5 Hughes; 6 Cameron Craig (Tonykart).
