Venue Change for CIK Stars of Karting Rounds

press release

Ongoing delays with the resurfacing of the Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway has forced organisers of the CIK Stars of Karting Series to swap the venues for the remaining two rounds of 2011.

Round four of the series, originally scheduled to be hosted by the North Shore Kart Club on July 30/31, will now be held in Newcastle on the same date.  The series finale will then be contested at Eastern Creek on September 17/18.

“Unfortunately significant delays in the resurfacing of the Eastern Creek venue due to the inclement Sydney weather and other unforeseen circumstances have forced us to make the swap of venues,” said International Karting Committee Chairman Craig Denton.

“We have worked closely with the management of the Eastern Creek venue along with the North Shore Kart Club Executive over the past month, after there was a lengthy delay in the resurfacing due to inclement weather, to monitor the situation.   However, despite the best efforts of everyone involved the venue won’t be ready in time for the upcoming round.

“The swapping of the venues is far from ideal for everyone involved and as a series we apologise for the inconvenience that this will cause.”

Garry Holt, Managing Director of Eastern Creek Karts, echoed Denton’s comments.

“It’s with disappointment that we have to make this decision, especially being only a few weeks out from the event,” said Holt.

“The resurfacing was originally scheduled for completion last month but due to the inclement weather and unforeseen circumstances we simply won’t have a track ready for this level of competition by the end of this month.

“While it appears as though the track surface will be laid in time, it won’t be suitable for the high-powered karts that compete in the CIK Stars of Karting Series.

“Eastern Creek has been the venue for many great karting events throughout the years and with a new track surface I will now be looking forward to a sensational finish to the 2011 Stars of Karting Series in September at our track.”

Drivers who have already entered for round four at Eastern Creek will have their entries transferred to Newcastle and further information on the round will be forthcoming over the next few days.

The timetable for the upcoming round will remain the same as previous rounds with practice beginning at 11:00am on Friday and all racing will be complete by 3:30pm on Sunday.
