JMax Surprise As Walker Turns 13

press release

HDR's Callum Walker turned 13 years old earlier this week and woke to the surprise gift of not one, but two new Karts and a JMax engine on his birthday.

The youngster has shown considerable promise both last year and year to date in the Junior National Light and Junior National Pro classes, that his parents have decided to reward him with the opportunity to take the next step up in his Karting career.

For the remainder of this season, a new Arrow will be powered by both a Yamaha KT100J engine for Callum's competition in the Junior National Pro and now Junior National Heavy classes and a Yamaha KT100S for Callum's entry into the Junior Clubman ranks.

The new HDR Walker Arrow X1 Kart will be powered by a Rotax engine and will see Callum practice and then later enter Junior Rotax events towards the end of the year.

"Callum, his family and HDR are keen to see him take the next steps up into the more powerful classes, now that he has turned 13" said HDR Team Manager, Craig Doyle.

"We're keen to enter the KF3 class in the CIK Stars of Karting Series with Callum next year if at all possible, so his parents are getting him into a 125cc Rotax now for some experience.  Callum's already shown the Team that he's committed to racing, with his devotion to his regular fitness training.  It's inspiring to see a young bloke with such a great outlook and personality, be so focused on his racing away from the track.  The challenge for us is now to keep up with him technically and provide him with the right resources.  His parents have made a tremendous investment in the hardware, now HDR has to help make some investments in the software (technical advice, set-up support & driver coaching) to power Callum in to and through 2012."

HDR Team Walker will continue to run a solid Junior National Pro and Junior National Heavy program for the remainder of 2011, as Callum currently sits 4th overall in the 2011 Yamaha Challenge, as part of the national CIK Stars of Karting Series.

HDR were the 2010 CIK Champions in the Yamaha Junior National East Coast Challenge and are keen to defend their title through their support of Callum this year.

HDR Walker will travel to Toowoomba today to run a practice and development day with HDR Team Topp in the lead up to Round 4 of the CIK Stars of Karting Series to be held at Newcastle on July 29 to 31.
