Greenbury One-Two At Pro Tourpress release - full results on AKA CM:s (more photos added 29/7/11 - scroll to bottom) Race 4 of the 2011 Rotax Pro Tour was held on the fast Sandy Creek Raceway circuit in Warwick in South East Queensland over the weekend and there was one driver everyone was talking about; Tyler Greenbury. The Intrepid Team driver who won the Queensland Championships on the very same circuit just a few weeks earlier, was in dynamite form as he raced away to victory in the DD2 gearbox class and finished second in a sensational Rotax Light final.
Greenbury started both of the 15 lap prefinals from pole position and in the DD2 class he raced away from the field to win in emphatic style ahead of Pacific Kartsport pilot Damien Ward with younger brother Lucas an excellent third. Both Greenbury & Lucas Ward were making debut's in the DD2 category. Winner of the last Pro Tour event in Port Macquarie, Jason Pringle, retired just 100 metres after the start after a first corner incident. James Macken waited until the very last lap to make his move in Rotax Light, making the Pro Tour win his biggest of the season. He shaded Josh De Maio in his Oakley backed Exprit kart and dove under De Maio into pit corner on the final lap. De Maio took to the grass, leaving the gap wide open for Greenbury who was closely followed by Chris Hays, taking his Vodafone Tonykart into third to make it a Queensland 1,2,3.
Victorian Troy Woolston was brilliant on his way to winning the Rotax Heavy final; the CC Racing driver started from grid 3 but took the lead at the start and was faultless on his way to winning the 22 lap final. Queensland's Brendan Nelson started from pole but could not bridge the gap and had to settle for second with CRG driver and current National champion, Simon Meyer holding on for third. Zeke Edwards held off a freight train for 4th place ahead of Paul Rodgers, Lane Moore and William Yarwood who started last on the grid after qualifying first but suffering a no start in the pre final due to an electrical failure.
Incredibly Joseph Mawson took his 4th Pro Tour win from 4 starts in the Junior Max class - making him the first ever driver to have achieved such a feat and guaranteeing him a drive at the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final in Dubai in November. The race was shortened after a crash involving Michael Smith and Caitlin Wood. The single file re-start did not stop Mawson taking another amazing win, Pierce Lehane was second with Michael Stewart in third. Michael Robson won it again in the O'35's category but received some stiff competition from Cameron Harch in the lead up to the final race. Cameron finished in second and Shane Karandrews took third.
Canberra's Bruce Otter took home yet another Pro Tour trophy in Super Heavy with Roberts & Rolls in second & third respectively. After leading most of the weekend, Michael Saller had to settle for second in the Junior Max (160) class behind TopGun driver Mitchell Kennedy and Coire Donnelly took third. The Pro Tour now pauses temporarily for the Rotax Nationals at Geelong in Victoria on September 2 before the final Pro Tour event to take place in Canberra on 29/30th October.
