Mawson Dominates Rotax Pro Tour

press release

Hinchinbrook (NSW) kart racer Joseph Mawson has continued his domination on the Junior MAX class during the 2011 Rotax Pro Tour taking out Round 4 held recently at the Warwick Kart Club in Queensland.

Driving an Australian made Arrow kart, Mawson’s latest victory earned him the honour of becoming the first driver to claim four consecutive round victories in the one season.

“It’s a great feeling to have won four from four this year.  Tyler (Greenbury) and Dave (Sera) came close with three straight previously in Rotax Light but to be the first driver who has won four events in a row is pretty cool,” said Mawson.

“Actually if you include the final round of the series last year it makes it five round wins in a row so I couldn’t be happier.”

The Fujitsu Cool backed 15 year-old won the Queensland State Championship at the same venue and kicked off where he left by winning the opening heat. He then had to settle for third in heat two but was back on top in the third and final heat with his second victory on the opening day of competition.

Starting from pole in the pre-final Mawson led from start to finish before similar domination in the 22-lap final where he led all but one lap en route to victory over archrival Pierce Lehane with Michael Stewart crossing the line third.

“To win all but one race this weekend is a great feeling.  As always Pierce (Lehane) was there pushing me all the way.  We were joined at the front this weekend by Mitchell Gee, Joseph Burton-Harris and Michael Stewart – they all showed some good speed across the five races,” Mawson continued.

“After winning the opening three rounds of the Pro Tour and the Queensland Title here at Warwick, it gave me great confidence heading into this round.”

By virtue of his domination in the Rotax class Mawson heads the Rotax Rankings points and has qualified to race at the Rotax World Final in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on November 19-26.

“I’m also going to take a lot of confidence into the World Final.  It’s going to be a great opportunity to race again some of the best drivers in the world while also exploring the opportunities to race in Europe in the future,” Mawson concluded.

Mawson’s next contest will be Round 4 of the CIK Stars of Karting Series held at the Newcastle Kart Club. Currently second in the championship he will be aiming to close the gap on the leader at the penultimate round of the year.
