Taylor & Kinsman To Face Off

press release

New Zealand's Right Karts' KartStars 2011 Rotax Max Challenge series sparks back into life at KartSport Auckland's Moselle Panel & Paint Raceway this weekend with all eyes on Motorex 125cc Rotax Max Light protagonists Daniel Kinsman and Kane Taylor.

At the first two rounds of this year's six-round Challenge series earlier in the year it was former Arai Formula Junior class winners Daniel Kinsman and Cambridge's Andy Schofield who were the drivers to beat in the Motorex Rotax Max Light class.

At the third round, however, Taylor and former class champion and New Zealand representative Ryan Urban made their presence felt. Urban set the second quickest lap time in qualifying before winning both Heat races and the Pre-Final, while Taylor followed Urban home in the second heat and Pre-Final, then won the Final after an early race clash slowed eventual runner-up Daniel Kinsman and saw Urban slip back to sixth place after leading the second and third laps.

Wet-dry conditions also saw Aarron Cunningham come to the fore in the Strata Networks Rotax Max Heavy class at Te Puke, the KartSport Mt Wellington club's Club Captain winning the second Heat and the Final, the latter from Steven Currie, Anthony Murch and local driver Arryn Hill.

Meanwhile, young Christchurch driver Scott Manson found himself with some competition in the Arai Formula Junior at Te Puke, a class in which, up until that point he has been the dominant figure.

In qualifying he was pipped for pole position by Palmerston North's Josh Drysdale and though he was back on top in the Final, Manson conceded the win in the Pre-Final to Auckland's Reid Harker.

After a long break to try and miss the worst of the winter weather this weekend's round of the Right Karts KartStars series has attracted a bumper entry with several new faces including former kart but more recently Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge star Mitch Cunningham who will drive a Rotax-engined kart for the first time in the Motorex 125cc Rotax Max Light class, plus three new entries in Arai Helmets Formula Junior bringing the grid number in that class up to a record 17.

The weekend's round is the fourth of six rounds of this year's Right Karts Kartstars Rotax Max Challenge with the fifth later in August in Hamilton and the final at the new Rotorua track in September.
