Kiwi Karters Taking On The Aussies This Weekend

press release

Two young New Zealand karters, Auckland's Arie Hutton and Wanganui's Aaron Marr, will be on the grid this weekend at the penultimate round of Australia's CIK Stars of Karting Series presented by Castrol Edge.

This weekend's round has been moved to Newcastle's Cameron Park kart track due to delays re-surfacing the original venue, the Eastern Creek kart circuit in western Sydney.

The event has attracted over 120 karters from across Australia - and New Zealand - with 16-year-old three-time New Zealand Sprint champion Hutton contesting the Prolight/KF1 class, 15-year-old Marr Pro Junior/KF3.

Having contested all three previous rounds of the 2011 series Marr is currently sixth overall in the KF3 class points standings and comes off an eighth place finish at the most recent round in Melbourne.

Hutton, who last weekend claimed another national title at the 2011 New Zealand Schools' championship in Hamilton, only joined the series at the Melbourne meeting, at the time intending it to be a one-off 'toe-in-the-water' exercise.

However, after proving immediately competitive - working his way through the field in each heat then finishing sixth in the Pre-Final and an impressive fourth in the Final - the decision was made to return for the penultimate round.

Practice for this weekend's meeting will be held today (Friday) with qualifying and heats on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

This year's CIK Stars of Karting series presented by Castrol Edge is the strongest held in Australia in a number of years with over 80 competitors contesting the three core CIK classes (Prolight/KF1, Pro Gearbox/KZ2 and Pro Junior/KF3) and another 50 competing in the two support classes,  Clubman and Junior National.
