After the penultimate round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series, the CRG Australia Racing Team now lead the Championship Points in three of the five classes on offer with Kel Treseder, Pierce Lehane and Lydon Dodge all on top in their respective classes.
Round four of the five round series was held at the Newcastle Kart Club’s 1058 metre Mount Sugarloaf Raceway and also rewarded the CRG Team with a victory in the Yamaha Clubman Challenge with Jaie Robson greeting the chequers first and teammate Brett Robinson rounding out the podium in third.
Heading into Newcastle, Treseder sat second by a mere point in the Pro Gearbox KZ2 championship however after a solid round he now leads the chase by four points while teammate Jason Pringle is just seven points off the lead in third.
With just ten points separating the top seven drivers the title is set to go down to the wire with both CRG drivers poised for an epic final round.
“It feels great to leave Newcastle and to be leading the championship but we need to keep our consistency going into the final as it is very tight at the top and will be a tough battle until the end,” said Treseder.
“My CRG felt awesome in Friday’s practice and my times were right at the top of the sheets but unfortunately we changed a spark plug for qualifying and it cost us pretty bad. Fortunately though we were able to have two solid runs in the finals and gain some valuable points to now be leading the way.”
“We will be giving it everything at the final round and with my CRG teammate Jason Pringle close behind in third hopefully we can bring it home for the team.”
Reigning class Champion Pierce Lehane continues to lead the way on the Pro Junior KF3 points table and will tackle the final round with a handy 27 point buffer over his closest rival.
Lehane opened his account in Newcastle with a third place in final one before crossing the line fifth in final two to retain his position at the head of pack.
A pair of fourth places in the finals for fellow CRG Junior driver Jake Coleman sees him fifth in the points and within striking distance of second place.
Despite the disappointment of being on the wrong end of some contact which prematurely ended his race in the Yamaha Clubman Challenge final, Lydon Dodge still heads the points with one round remaining.
Dodge’s CRG teammates flew the flag in his absence with Jaie Robson taking the lead with a handful of laps remaining to take the victory while after his third place Brett Robinson is now third in the championship.
Jason Hryniuk showed impressive pace in the Pro Light KF1 class to score a third place in final one and was hoping for big things from final two however when the polesitter fouled a spark plug at the start it caused Hryniuk to drop way down the order, recovering to finish seventh.
The fifth and final round is scheduled to be held at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway on September 17/18.
