Formula Forder Back To Karts For Canadian Championship

press release

One year ago Dalton Kellett could feel the opportunity to compete as part of Team Canada at the Rotax Grand Finals as he was in a transfer position at the 2010 Canadian National Karting Championships. But the race didn't end quite how it started and when the dust settled, Kellett immediately knew that he would be returning the following year to complete some unfinished business.

Fast forward to 2011.

This week, Dalton Kellett will return to Le Circuit Karting Mont-Tremblant for the 2011 ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships. After coming so close last season, Kellett will once again compete in two classes in the 5-day event with two shots at becoming not only a Canadian National Champion, but also to become part of Team Canada for this years Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals being held this year in Al Ain, UAE.

"Last year was a heart-breaker," explained Kellett. "The emotional roller coaster was wild, but I was still very proud of myself being a rookie in Rotax Senior and being up front racing for the win."

This season, Dalton elected to compete in the Western Canadian Championships due some scheduling conflicts holding him back from racing the Eastern Canadian Karting Championship. Racing in BC, Saskatchewan and Alberta, Kellett took on the best drivers from Western Canada in both the Rotax Max Senior and the Rotax Max DD2 classes. Highlighted by two victories in Saskatoon, Kellett would earn the Vice-Championship title in both categories, narrowly missing the Team Canada invites.

"It was a great opportunity to be able to race in the WCC this year," commented Kellett before traveling to Mont-Tremblant. "Getting to race on new tracks against drivers who already knew them very well was great preparation for the [Canadian] Nationals. Both myself and my driver coach Darryl Timmers were very pleased with our results in the Rotax Max and DD2 championships, finishing second in both."

This past weekend, Dalton competed in his first race in an Ontario Formula Ford at the famed Mosport International Raceway. Electing to make the transition from karts to cars this season, it was a great experience for Dalton and something he can't wait to get back into.

"Had a great first race at Mosport! It was crazy in the rain. Thanks to everyone at BGR-Team Grote and Darryl Timmers for their help," exclaimed Kellett. "This year I am making my transition from go karts to cars by racing in the Ontario Formula Ford Championship with Brian Graham Racing & Team Grote. I have found that cars has increased my confidence in my driving abilities which will be very helpful in karts this weekend in Tremblant."

The event starts Wednesday with two days of unofficial practice. The ASN Canada FIA Canadian Karting Championships presented by Canadian Tire will be broadcast via live internet stream on the Kart Racing Network starting Friday, August 12 at www.kartracingnetwork.com.
