As the end of the (USA) summer season of karting fast approaches, the International Kart Federation (IKF) 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals are just around the corner, as nineteen classes will compete for the coveted Duffy Grand National Award. Taking place at the CalSpeed Karting Center in Fontana, California, participants will vie for race wins, podium results and the title of 'Grand National Champion.'

With the official event-taking place August 25th to the 28th, Race Promoter Rob Niles is excited to get started.

"We have had great interest from teams and drivers and are expecting a large turnout," explained Niles. "The 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals are one of the most prestigious events on the North American karting calendar and a race win here can help launch the career of an up and coming driver."

With nineteen classes seeing action over the four-day event, all drivers will have their eyes on the 'Duffy' prize that awaits them if they are the first to the checkered flag.  Also up for grabs will be the Lake Speed Achievement of Excellence Award that has been a staple in the IKF karting community since its inception.

The International Kart Federation continues a legacy of tradition with the presentation of the Lake Speed Achievement of Excellence award.  The perpetual award, honoring the 1978 World Karting Champion and former NASCAR star, will honor its fifth recipient at the 2011 IKF 2-Cycle Sprint Grand Nationals at CalSpeed Karting Center in Fontana, California.

Former recipients of the award will help select the future recipient who could be a driver, team, kart shop of combination thereof. The former recipients along with the IKF committee will determine a winner based on a multitude of criteria including sportsmanship, competitive achievement, benevolence and professional appearance during the race event.

The past winners will participate in the presentation of the 2011 recipient.  The 2010 winner was Jake Craig.

"The entire IKF Board of Directors is excited to continue with the Lake Speed Award," expressed IKF President Bill Hilger. "Lake Speed has been a role model in karting since his World Championship and we are happy to have his name associated with our series."

The IKF Director in Charge will be IKF President Bill Hilger and the IKF Technical Director in Charge will be IKF Board member John Motley. The Race Director will be Taylor Jocelyn.
