Speedway Icon Named As Grand Marshall For AKA Speedway Titles

press release

The New South Wales Speedway Kart Club are proudly hosting the AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles on the weekend of the 3rd/4th September 2011 at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road Castlereagh.

The meeting will be the 2nd running of speedway karting’s most prestigious event. Over 90 karters will be in attendance all trying their hardest to become the AKA Australian Speedway Kart Champion in their respective classes.

The Executive Committee of the NSWSKC are proud to announce that a speedway icon of the sport has accepted their offer to be Grand Marshall for the event.

Mr Brian Linigen is a name that every one involved in speedway knows well and is the man that will be in attendance at the meeting to flag the feature races and then present the trophies and awards to the lucky drivers.

Having been involved in speedway for many decades Brian has seen it all and done it it all. He had his own successful racing career racing the familiar #25 all around the country.

Along with his own successful racing career, Brian has also been a very successful car owner. Along with his talented daughters Melinda and Kelly, Brian has had up to 20 different drivers pilot his race cars over the years. Two of the most notable are motorsport legend’s, Tony Stewart and Danny Smith.

No less than 5 Australian Sprintcar Champion’s, including Max Dumesny, Robbie Farr, Skip Jackson, Kerry Madsen and Garry Brazier have all had seat time in Brian’s cars.

Other names that have had a chance to race the famous Linigen 25 are Troy Little, Craig Brady, Steven Graham, Lealand McSpadden, JJ Mineeff, Sid Midlemiss, John Pyne, Andy Raymond, John Walsh, John Barrett and Trent Singleton.

A lot of these drivers received their opportunity to race sprintcars thanks to Brian and the latest driver to taste success has been 2 time PCR track Champion Mitchell Dumensy who Brian helped get started in the sport.

It has been only recently that Brian has stepped away from owning a current race car team, however, his Speedway Museum at his home in Marsden Park has many of Australia’s most famous racecar’s all restored to their former glory on show. Each with their own story to tell. Along with the cars Brian has spent countless hours and dollars collecting some of speedway’s greatest memories and are all proudly displayed in his own photo gallery.

Brian has always been a friend of the NSWSKC and is often seen on the hill on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Nepean casting an eye over the young talent on display. It is not a well know fact because Brian likes to keep things low key, but he always has a young driver he helps out with financial help or helps supply equipment like a new sets of tyres or the like to someone who may be struggling a bit.

As mentioned the club is very proud to have Brian accept their offer and look forward to his involvement at the event.

The AKA Australian Speedway Kart Titles are being held 3rd/4th September at the Nepean Motorsport Complex on Rickards Road Castlereagh.

Saturday’s program starts at 10am with 3 qualifying heats for all drivers.

On Sunday racing will again start at 10am with all drivers having a last chance heat and then the all important Title races to see who becomes the 2011 AKA Australian Speedway Kart Champion.
