Handikart Race For Drivers With Disability

Races for karters with a disability were held at Essay (France) in conjunction with the U18 World Championship round a week ago. The first ever Coupe de France Handikart race reflected the rise in numbers of people with a disability participating in the sport.

Alain Nicolle (Sodi) dominated the event and came home ahead of Pascal Hermes (Sodi), Claude Zéférini (Tony Kart), Melwynn Rodriguez (Sodi) and Cyrille Fournier (Top Kart). The first four used Rotax engines, while Fournier was Biland powered.

The fight was between Rodriguez and a ruthless Zéférini for third place. Rodriguez made a bad start in the final and dropped to eighth before recovering to 4th.

In such an event, victory is not the only reward at stake. Participation and finishing the race are challenges that provide satisfaction. Rapturous applause was reserved not just for the winners on the podium, but for all participants.
