CIK & Ben George For Harrington Doyle Racing

press release

Yatala Team Adds Italian, Water Cooled & World Champ Engineer to 2012 Mix

The Motul Performance Motor Oils supported Yatala based Kart Team; Harrington Doyle Racing (HDR), is undergoing some significant changes in preparation for the upcoming 2012 calendar season.

Traditionally focused on the 100cc air cooled Yamaha Kart classes, the Team will in 2012 step up into the higher media profiled CIK Stars of Karting Pro classes of KF1 and KF3.  The group is also looking to bring together further resources to compete in the Rotax Pro Tour for the very first time in its fledging 5 year history.

The first part of those new plans is complete, realigning itself with Remo Racing & the Italian made Kosmic Kart brand, through Team Partner Pacific Kartsport.  HDR last successfully campaigned Kosmic Karts in 2009 with Brendan Nelson taking out the Leopard Heavy Grand Final Shootout and $7,000 worth of prizes, among other great Series and Title wins that same season.  The first two new HDR Kosmic Mercury Karts were delivered and assembled mid last week.

"We’re hoping the success that we’ve had with the Kosmic brand in the past will again repeat itself when we return to the Italian made karts.  Whilst we are actively preparing for next year and we're excited about what's coming together rather quickly, we continue to remain focussed on our Yamaha Clubman & Rookie programs and capitalising on our achievements thus far in 2011", said Team Manager, Craig Doyle.

"As last year’s CIK Stars of Karting Yamaha Challenge winners in Junior National and runners up in Clubman, we’re keen to deliver another strong finish in the 2011 Series.  James [Greenwood] is currently running 5th and Brooke [Topp] 7th in the Clubman class, whilst young Callum [Walker] is currently 4th overall in the Championship Points for Junior National in the CIK Stars of Karting Series.  We’ve also got some business to finish in Gladstone in the final round of the 2011 Supercheap Series, to win back to back Series Championships in Clubman Pro.  James has put us in a commanding position to deliver this.  You will however see a new HDR Kart pop up in JMax & KF3 over the next few months, as we test & get familiar with where we want to go next year".

A further part of the changes at the Yatala headquarters includes 2006/07 DD2 Rotax World Champion, Ben George, owner of Race 360 ~ Driver Training & Race Support, joins the 2012 HDR Pro Team to work as Chief Engineer & Driver Coach. Ben has already begun work with the Team in recent weeks on resource planning (chassis, engines, telemetry, etc.) and coaching young HDR JMax & KF3 pilot, Callum Walker in preparation for next calendar season.

“We’re keen to do it right first up in 2012 and do it well”, said Doyle. “We said earlier this year that we wanted to know what we were going to do next year by no later than 31st August, so that we could put things in place, find a good engineer, acquire new engines, karts, gear and be organised by Christmas.  Our Team Partners need to know what we are doing and be signed up to the bigger interstate program. Cameron Harch at Custom Decals is helping us with a revised livery and once we’ve signed off with him on this, we’ll start working with Cameron, and the Teams at Kombat Clothing, Embroidery 2 Day and Star Outdoors in bringing the new look together.”

Harrington Doyle Racing’s Callum Walker will compete in the JMax field this weekend at the Newcastle Shakedown meeting before being joined by his Yamaha Team mates James Greenwood and Harrison Oddie just over a week later at the NSW State Open Titles at Newcastle.  James, Callum and Brooke will then be back at Newcastle a couple of weeks later for the 5th and final round of the 2011 Australian CIK Stars of Karting Series.
