The Walters are an Australian family living in the south of France. Twelve-year-old Lucas has had some karting success in France and last month participated in the Gold Cup event at Dubbo.

"He ran an Arrow AX9 chassis and a motor rented from Darren Shepherd of One Stop Kart Shop in Orange" his dad, Bruce, informed KartSportNews. "Lucas raced in Junior National Light category on equipment that he had never used before and on tracks on which he had never raced.  Apart from breaking the track record (and then having it broken again by the previous record holder a lap later) Lucas finished a credible third in the final after seconds in the heats and the pre-final."

The following week he grabbed two wins and two seconds at the Orange Kart Club’s race day.

He is now back in France training and preparing for his next visit to Australia, which the family hopes to be some time in 2012.  "The long-term plan is to move back to Australia by late 2013" Bruce added.

Lucas discovered karting in Spain late in 2005 and joined the kart club at Carcassonne. He drove a Rocket chassis with a Comer S60 engine. The following year he moved to Minikart with a Honda GX120cc 4-stroke motor, winning a number of regional races in 2007.

After advancing to the Minime catagory (Sodi chassis with 2-stroke IAME Puma 85cc motor) Lucas suffered skull fractures after crashing in the first heats of the French National Championships, forcing him out of action for several months.

Back racing in 2009, he has been participating in various championships and in May of this year up-graded to Cadets (Puma 100cc TAG), but has to carry 20kg of lead to make minimum weight!

An avid Skier and tennis player, Lucas speaks English and French and is studying Spanish and Latin.
