Arrow Drivers Storm to 10 Wins at NSW State Titles

press release

The 2011 New South Wales State Championships had to be re-scheduled to Newcastle Karting Club after resurfacing issues at Eastern Creek forced the change of venue, but that didn’t stop Arrow Racing Karts drivers storming through difficult conditions to take out ten class wins from a possible fifteen.

Leading the charge were two long-time Arrow supporters in Matthew Wall and David Sera who both took out two championships a piece, while there were some first time winners aboard their Arrow karts.

Wall qualified fastest in Leopard Heavy, and was never outside the top two in any race to comfortably win the final in testing conditions. Wall’s second win for the day was in the highly competitive Clubman Heavy class, and after sharing the front row with fellow Arrow driver Brendan Nelson, Wall took the lead early on to edge out a race winning lead. Following Wall home in Clubman Heavy was the ever-consistent Leigh Nicolaou aboard his X1-30 in third place.

David Sera completed the second double championship for the weekend, when he took out Clubman Light and Leopard Light. Although he was pipped in qualifying by Macauley Jones in his Arrow X1-28N, Sera lead the way in every race to take out a convincing win in his X1-28C chassis. It was Sera’s third win in four years at the NSW titles in Clubman Light.

Sera blasted around the Newcastle track to set the fastest time in qualifying in Leopard Light, and found himself with a front row starting position for the all-important final. After dicing for the lead in the opening laps, Sera opened up a handy buffer over his rivals to claim his second title for the day.

It was an all Arrow front row in Junior Clubman with two young stars in Anton DePasquale and Joseph Mawson leading the way. Unfortunately for DePasquale, a chain falling off hampered his chances of winning while leading the race, handing the race lead to Mawson which he didn’t relinquish.

Mawson nearly completed the double, but was upstaged by Victorian Liam Morey in Junior Max. After losing several spots mid-race, Morey showed maturity to carve his way through his competitors to claim his first Junior Max State Championship beating home the current National Champion in Mawson.

Damon Strongman claimed his first Junior State Championship in difficult conditions in Junior National Light leading home an all Arrow podium with Mick Saller claiming second position after charging from twentieth on the grid with Jordan Boys rounding out the podium.

Anton DePasquale qualified fastest in Junior National Heavy, and crossed the line first but was later dropped back to second place following a last lap incident. Mick Saller was the eventual winner with Strongman going agonisingly close to his second victory of the day, until a last lap off-road excursion dropped him back to fifth.
Blake Sciberras won Senior National Heavy from Corey Lean, who was leading the entire race until a last lap mistake dropped him back a position.

Sciberras had to settle for second in Senior National Light after a fierce three-way battle for the win saw young Queenslander James Foster take his first Senior State Championship.

Arrow Racing Karts will now move their focus to the final round of the CIK Stars of Karting Series held at the same venue in Newcastle on the 15/16th October.
