Sera Heads To New Zealand For North Island Championship

press release

Top Australian karter, David Sera, will take on some of New Zealand's finest KartSport drivers at The Thirsty Whale-sponsored 2011 KartSport New Zealand North Island Sprint Kart Championship meeting in the Hawke's Bay over Labour Weekend.

Though still just 23-years-of-age, 12-time Australian champion Sera, from Melbourne, made history in September when he won Australia's Rotax Max Light title for the fifth consecutive time and only last weekend won not one but two class titles at the New South Wales Championship title meeting in Newcastle, bringing his State title tally up to an incredible 44.

The Victorian, who works for Australian kart manufacturer Arrow, has also competed successfully in the United States and represented Australia at the Rotax Max category's annual Grand Final on a number of occasions.

Here he will drive one of Arrow's new XIE karts with a Bullseye-built 125cc Rotax Max engine in the Rotax Max Light class for New Zealand Rotax and North Island Arrow importer Right Karts of Auckland.

Right Karts have been working on getting Sera here for some time and company spokesman Gavin Bright says he is looking forward to seeing him take on some of New Zealand's best Rotax drivers in the 125cc Rotax Max Light class at the North Island championship meeting.

"There's no one better than David in Australia at the moment so he'll be a good benchmark for our local drivers. Short of heading over there themselves there's no better opportunity to see how they rate against a driver who is right at the top of his game in the Rotax Max Light class."

While he is here Sera will be run by Right Karts' own three-time New Zealand Sprint Kart champion Tony Chambers.

As it turns out Sera will not be the only Australian driver competing at the North Island Sprint Kart Championship meeting in the Hawke's Bay over Labour Weekend either.

After winning the New Zealand 125cc Rotax Max Heavy title at the Speedy Signs 2011 New Zealand Sprint Kart Championship meeting at Invercargill over the Easter weekend, expat Kiwi Lane Moore, who now lives on Queensland's Gold Coast, is returning to try and add the North Island 125cc Rotax Max Heavy class title to his CV.

This year over Labour Weekend KartSport Hawke's Bay is hosting the North Island title meeting at its ZM Raceway at Roys Hill near Hastings while KartSport Nelson is hosting the South Island one the Classic Hits Raceway near Nelson.

With entries now closed the North Island meeting has attracted 143 starters, the South Island one 83.
