Southern's Closed Club Championship Finale Looms

press release

The final round of the Southern Go Kart Club's Closed Club championship will run at Bolivar on Sunday, November 13.

SGKC publicity officer Emma-Louise Lester said “The Executive/Race Committee took a new approach to this years Closed Club Championships with a totally new format, more racing and prizes”.

“The committee looked at what the clubs members and racing community had been asking for and set about creating a format that will have seen the club use a different track for each round (short & long in both directions).

Qualifying was added and mixed it up a bit with the slowest qualifiers at the front of the grid in heat 2 and the highest points to the front in heat 4 – the idea being that it gives passing practice to those that are a little more experienced and a chance for those who have perhaps not been long off their P’s a taste of being at the front of the grid and some starting practice.

Fewer classes have been offered but more racing with 5 heats of 10 laps. The club has also given back to its members with the introduction of the lucky prize draws at trophy presentation – Gold (a set of tyres), Silver ($75 worth of karting products of their choice) & Bronze (entry fee refunded)”

“Southern members have embraced the new format where we have seen some great racing in all the classes. In the Midget category with 19 out of 22 competing at round 2 it certainly bought the spectators to the fence and with only 6 points separating the top 4 drivers it will make for an interesting final round.”

“The club championship will culminate with the trophy presentation being held at a dinner in the clubs training centre on Friday 18th November.”
