Fifteen drivers showed up for the second to last round of the year, with 4 heats and a final, consisting of 15 races on a very hot Saturday afternoon at Whyalla last weekend, November 5.

The Seniors were all combined with 10 drivers competing in their own classes. There was plenty of action and some drivers were not so lucky. In a pile up on the entry to the pit straight in the 3rd heat, which was in reverse direction of racing, Chris Reid was the unlucky driver and was not able to compete for the rest of the day due to a bent rear axle, front tie rods and rear crash bar damage. He will be back for the final round of the year.

Two new drivers hit the track for the first time; Ellen Shipard, the only senior female driver, and 8-year-old Midget driver Cooper Jones. Both drivers gain great experience and totally enjoyed the day.

One driver who has made a come back from a break, was Paul Schmidt, who showed that he has not lost any race craft with lap times proving he will be one to watch in his class.

Dave Camwell took out the Restricted 125 Heavy class with straight wins, Brian Maitland second and Allan Watt third. Darrol Jones was the winner in the Sportsman SA 150 class, beating Kade Lawson second and Brian Watt third.

The Juniors put on a good show; Aiden Sossa was the only driver in Junior performance, so he handycapped himself behind the Junior National Light field. He managed to reel in the front runners and lined himself up to overtake along the back straight with some clean smooth driving. Jake Looyestyn proved too strong for his Kids Cops and Karts team mate Brodie Armour, with Jake first, Brodie second and the only Junior female driver, Isabella Cumerlato, third.

The day was a total success with plenty of racing for the spectators, family members and drivers enjoying the great family fun atmosphere. The canteen and beer booth had their work cut out for them at the end of the hot day.

Thanks to all the volunteers who made the day a well run fantastic race meeting, see you all there for our Christmas meeting in December (the final round on the 3rd of December, with a 1pm start).
