Tasmanian Championships - Day 2Tweetfrom Rebecca Wyatt Day Two of the 2011 Hunters Products Tasmanian Sprint Kart Championships provided the spectators with plenty of thrills and spills, as the steady rain overnight ensured the day started on a wet track. Round Two of heat racing had puddles forming in many areas of the circuit’s run-off areas, plenty of plumes of water followed drivers who strayed from the race line. Later in the program the lack of constant rain accelerated the formation of a dry race line, with Tag 125 Light the first class to make the 50-50 choice between slicks and wets. Slicks proved to be the better choice as former Hobartian Ben Walter charging forward on a drying track. The Pre-Final round was held in the afternoon, with the track mostly drying out to be optimum for slicks. Hard chargers included Morgan Jakobovski from Hobart, who continued his good form to take second place in the Junior National Light pre-final, slotting himself between Damon Strongman and Justin Francis to have a front-row position for the final. Junior National Heavy National Champion Anton De Pasquale continued his good form in both Junior National Heavy and Junior Clubman, continuing to be undefeated in Junior Clubman and only a single 2nd place blemish on his record in Junior National Heavy. Jordan Ford continued to dominate proceedings in Clubman Light, with neither wet nor dry weather worrying the Melburnian in a quest to back up his state title from 2010. One of the big surprises in the pre-finals was Peter Rogers, who had dominated proceedings in Over 40’s Pro while the track was wet, but once the track dried out for pre-final racing could not finish the race. Other wet-weather specialists who struggled in the drying conditions included Naomi Wrigley in Senior National Light, and the trio of Jordyn Sinni, Jordan Caruso and Benito Montalbano, who were all casualties in the Midgets pre-final. Local drivers who performed well on day two included Mitchel Evans, who recovered from a third placing in both the heats to take out the pre-final of Clubman Heavy; Kelsey Sapwell, who finished just behind National Champion Nicholas Ellen in Senior National Light. Jamie Bricknell finished on top of Senior National Heavy, while second place in Rookies was as high as Alex Peroni could manage in the 16 lap pre-final. Action starts for the finals at 9am tomorrow morning, at the Archerville Southern Cross Kartway, Pipers River Road, Turners Marsh. Results Heat 2:
