Kostecki Brothers Make Strong International Debut

press release

Perth based teenagers Kurt and Jake Kostecki have returned from the recent Super Nationals Karting event in Las Vegas, buoyed by some strong results in front of the World’s best, placing them in a strong position looking ahead to the 2012 Australian season.

Both Kurt and Jake were hot out of the blocks in the early sessions, with both inside the top 10 for the beginning of the opening heats in amongst the biggest fields either of them had ever raced in.

Jake states, “it was brilliant to be able to qualify so well, in particular because were in such a big field, but also the pressure of being my first overseas event, it filled me with plenty of confidence for the remainder of the event.”

Some unfortunate luck struck out Kurt from heat 1, with a racing incident ending his opener, followed by a mechanical drama in heat 2 with the accelerator cable snapping forcing him out despite being in a 4 pack breakaway. The final heat for Kurt was again ended prematurely with his chain snapping 2 laps from the end, however his confidence was still high, setting the fastest lap of the race and being part of another 4 Kart breakaway for a majority of the event.

“The track was really demanding especially the barriers; the meeting was run very professionally. It proved to be a great learning curve,” stated Kurt.

It was a continued strong performance from Jake throughout the course of the event, maintaining top 5 results in fields of over 20 Karts, which truly displayed not only his but the talent of Australian Karting. Jake added, “we were just so happy with how well the Kart performed, and I was really impressed with how I was driving, everything put together just spurred me on toward the great results.”

Starting from 11th for the final, Jake was looking forward to a strong result to cap off the event; a minor change mechanically prior to the race meant the chain proved to be tight following a check of the engine pre-race. A content Kostecki pushed on however to eventually claim 11th by the end.

The Kostecki brothers took a great deal out of the event, and the experience is one they will never forget from a multitude of perspectives. The team’s plans for 2012 are currently being planned and will be released over the next weeks.
