AKA press release

With female kart racers coming from across New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria and the Northern Territory along with one entry from New Zealand – the Lithgow venue is set to be the epicenter of the Women’s Karting Community while raising much-needed funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The only one of its kind in Australia, the January 28/29 event will see the lady racers competing across a variety of categories from Cadets, aged between seven and ten years, through to the senior ranks where a number of ladies over the age of 50 will take to the track.

Since it’s inception in 2007, the annual event has raised in excess of $100,000 for the cause and Event Co-ordinator Russell Grimson believes this year’s event is ramping up to be the biggest yet.

“Over the past few years we’ve attracted around 100 female competitors from all parts of the country at every event and this year we’re proud to have New Zealander Chelsea Herbert coming across the Tasman to compete,” said Grimson.

“While everybody is on the track to win, the main focus for the All Ladies Race Day is for everyone to enjoy themselves while also raising funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation.”

All competitors will be vying for the Nicole Franks Perpetual Trophy, in honour of a young female racer who was tragically killed in an incident during an event at Wollongong in 2002.

The winner will be based on the overall best performance on the day from one of the 11 classes, and will receive a pink number plate and sash, their own trophy and their name engraved on the Perpetual Trophy.

Other activities on the day will include a Celebrity race – which will see both local and out of town celebrities take to the track, as well as a Fun Category of the Ladies Canteen Cup for women involved through karting through their families in both a over and under 30 category.

The night before, there will also be a special auction held at the clubhouse to raise additional funds, with some great items up for grabs including more than $2,000 in products donated by Yamaha Motor Australia.  Tickets for this are available by contacting Russell Grimson on (02) 4722 6583 or 0409 785 720.
