Strong Numbers For CIK Stars of KartingTweetpress release Australia’s elite karting series, the CIK Stars of Karting Series, has attracted a strong list of registrations ahead of next month’s opening round to be held at the Bolivar Raceway in South Australia. Across each of the three CIK-specification categories – Pro Light (KF1), Pro Gearbox (KZ2) and Pro Junior (KF3) – the registrations have exceeded the numbers seen at a similar point in 2011. Both senior champions, Jake Spencer (Pro Light) and Tyler Greenbury (Pro Gearbox), have registered their intentions to go back-to-back in their respective categories.
Spencer will proudly wear the number one plate on his JAM Racing Kosmic entry as he once again lines up with Adam Hughes and George Geranis in his corner. The Pro Light (KF1) registration list is peppered with talent including the likes of Joseph Mawson and Jake Klarich, who are both making the step up from the Pro Junior ranks. The Harrington Doyle Racing outfit is making the step up into the Pro ranks after two successful years in the Yamaha Challenge. Brooke Topp and Jarryd Ebzery will fly the HDR flag in the Pro Light category during 2012. “It’s going to be tough with all of the juniors coming up, and everyone in the field from last year has really stepped up their game,” said Spencer. “With so many good drivers in the field it’s always going to be tough, but in saying that myself and the other JAM Racing drivers have done a fair bit of testing over the Christmas break and I’m confident that we’ll be up the front again in 2012.” In a unique twist, Greenbury appears to be eyeing off a series first double title having registered to compete in both the Pro Light and Pro Gearbox categories.
Drivers who will be joining the reigning champion on the grid to chase the John Pizarro Trophy in the KZ2-specification category include 2010 Series Champion Matthew Wall, perennial front-runner Troy Woolston and rising star Macauley Jones. Two-time runner-up in the series, Kel Treseder, has registered for the five-round championship, however, his plans for 2012 are still yet to be finalised. With a number of the front-runners in the 2011 Pro Junior championship moving into the senior ranks the chase for the Jon Targett trophy is wide open. The experienced Brock Plumb and Jake Coleman will be joined on the grid by a number of Stars of Karting newcomers including Lachlan McHugh, James Abela and Western Australians Patrick Martin and Kurt Kostecki.
The Yamaha Challenge will also be contested across the five-round series in the Clubman and Junior National classes while the Australian Leopard Series has attracted 20 registrations.
