McLean Prepares For Busy Weekend at Top Guns

Melbourne teenager Matt McLean is in his final preparations for the opening meeting of the season this weekend, the Junior Top Guns event held at Oakleigh Kart Club. The race also carries a greater importance with the driver judged most suitable overall to receive a free test for JRD Racing in Formula Vee.

Matt will take to the circuit in both Junior National Light, a category that he has become quite accustomed to, as well as making his debut in the popular Junior Clubman category. Despite the engine change on his new category, McLean is confident of a strong result in particular with recent testing showing some positive results.

“The opportunity to join the Junior Clubman field is what that I am very excited about, and with the history of the category producing Australia’s best drivers such as Chaz Mostert, it will be a brilliant opening event.”

With past National champions of the category such as V8 Supercar Development drivers, Chaz Mostert, Ash Walsh and Taz Douglas aswell as GP3 test driver, Kristian Lindbom, Matt is looking to use it as a springboard toward higher open wheel categories in Australia.

In 2012, Matt will become the inaugural driver in the Direct Management Group Junior Development Program. Established by Motorsport commentator and writer, Liam Meegan, McLean will now receive career advice and development throughout the next 12 months, as well as a full driver and media management package. This program will also take into consideration diet and lifestyle awareness, and mental and physical fitness in motorsport.

Matt will take to the track from Friday afternoon in both the Junior Clubman and Junior National Light category’s with the meeting winding up on Saturday night with the JRD test driver to be decided as a combined decision from both day’s events.
