A mid-week race meeting, on a Public Holiday - surely that couldn’t work? And with temperatures in the high 30’s in the week leading up to the event, the club wondered whether the racing community might have chosen the beach instead of the race track.

However with 90 entries, Southern Go Kart Club believes that its curtain raising race meeting of the year was a great success.

With a class of 20 Cadets lining up on the out grid there was bound to be some hard racing. Jack Hutchins, Jackson Rees and Amee Blair certainly put the pressure on Jason Bowyer throughout the day. Jason took the days win with only 2 points separating 1st place to 3rd place.

Clubman Heavy and Clubman Over 40’s lined up on the grid together. The over 40’s certainly fought a hard battle all day with David Thompson and Steve Blee fighting it out. Blee took out the first two heats of the day over Thompson but not to be out done Thompson clambered back and came home strong in first place for the 3rd & 4th heats. The end result was a tie with a count back to the qualifying times that saw Thompson out qualify Blee by 0:02.110 of a second and to take the 1st place trophy.

Joshua Denton fought off a strong field of 14 rookies all day finishing the first three heats in 1st place only to have a mechanical failure in the final heat and a DNF, allowing Brodie Cook who was celebrating his first time on the front row to take out the overall first place for the day.
