Floods Force Venue Change For Australasian Kart Titles

The Goulburn Valley Kart Club's annual Australasian title meeting at Numurkah will this year be run at Mildura. Flooding in the area has seen the Numukah track under 1 metre of water, forcing the club to look at its options.

"A number of different possibilities have been explored and we are pleased to announce that, with the co-operation of the Mildura Kart Club, the 2012 Australasian Kart Titles will now be held at Mildura Raceway" GVKC Vice-President Michael Scott informed KartSportNews.

Traditionally run in September, the 21st running of the event had already been moved to the Easter long weekend, April 6-8 (due to the traditional Easter AKA Nationals shifting to July for the Darwin edition).

There will be four races over two days, culminating in a winner-take-all championship final on Sunday afternoon. Saturday’s second heat will take advantage of Mildura's capability to run night-time races and will be held under lights.

Something new for 2012 is the introduction of the Empire Trade - Engine Builder’s Point Score. A $400 holiday voucher at Mt Eliza will be presented to the most successful Engine Builder of the meeting.

"The GVKC wants to reward engine builders who are successful at the event. Karters must register their engine builder as a sponsor in their entry for them to be eligible" Scott explained.

Organisers anticipate up to 240 racers will compete in 16 classes and all junior classes will be offered. "With support from the Moira Shire and Empire Trade Exchange, trophies will be presented to fifth place for all junior classes, as well as limited edition prints for the Junior Champions."

Revised Supp Regs will be out soon, so keep at check on the Race Calendar page.

Entry can only be done online and there will be no oversubscribed classes (ie, once at track capacity, class entry will close).
