2012 Pacific Coast Titles

from Dave Stanwix

Pacific Parkway International Raceway was bathed in glorious sunshine for the 14th running of The Pacific Coast Titles at Port Macquarie on May 12/13. With over half of the competitors arriving on the Friday for practice, it was sure going to be a good meeting.

After practice & carbie/qualifying on Saturday morning, the competition started in earnest at around 11.30am.

First up we had Rookies sponsored by D.T.O. RACEWEAR, with fastest qualifier Zac Raddatz showing the way with a very consistent run taking out all three heats, pre final & final, with Tim Aebi fighting off a very persistent Tom Krstevski for the minor places, 4th Jarrod Costello, 5th Bill Stanwix.

Cadets sponsored by DUNLOP KARTSPORTS were next & once again the fastest qualifier Zac Crighton1st fought off a very quick Zac Burge 2nd and an always consistent 3rd place Tane Schofield, 4th Jason Haddad, 5th William Seal.

With Jnr Light (RIVERSIDE TOURIST VILLAGE) & Heavy (D.P.E) combined it sure made for some very interesting viewing, Lights was a hard fought battle with Andreas Chronis winning 4 out of 5 races to take home the #1 plate in front of a hard charging Ryley Brunner for 2nd & Chris Burley in 3rd. fourth was Todd Stocks and 5th Daniel Sayre. Heavies were led all the way by Damon Schofield taking the win in all races. Torey Blanch & Brady Buchanan battled it out for the minor places with Hayden Jackson & Joel Robertson in 4th & 5th respectively.

There was only a small field for J Max (I.K.D) with only 4 entries. Competition was close all day and 1st went to Lachlan Gibbons, 2nd Gus Flynn, 3rd James Duckworth & 4th Torey Blanch.

Next on the race list was Snr National @150kg (D.P.E.). Close & consistant racing saw Hayden Buchannan take 1st ahead of Allan Gurr, then Nathan Godsell, Ryan McBride 4th asnd Ryan McLeod 5th.

Clubman Light (B & M AUTO’S) & Heavy (ARROW KARTS) were on track together & had some interesting moments with some very quick Heavies taking it up to the Lights. First place in Lights went to Andrew Parsons with Dean Crosswell second. Heavies went to Daniel Ferry, 2nd Chris Rogers, 3rd Sam Ward & Adam Barclay in 4th.

Tag-R Light, sponsored by REPCO AUTO PARTS, had good numbers. After a good run in the heats on Saturday, Martin Wasley had to return home early Sunday morning for the birth of his daughter - congratulations go out to Martin & his wife! Michael Slade took home the red plate, Paul Craddock 2nd in front of Cameron McPherson, with Tim Hutchinson & Shane Murray taking out the minors.

Again, good numbers in Tag-R Heavy (sponsored by REPCO AUTO PARTS) showcased some great close racing over the entire weekend. Luke Garrard got 1st, Steven Vegh 2nd, Aaron Wasley (the new uncle) finished 3rd, Dave Strickland 4th & Troy Gross in 5th for the weekend.

Sportsman 125 Light (T. M STEWART ELECTRICAL) victory went to David Jolly after heading off a persistent Chris Rogers for second. Peter Jolly came in 3rd, with Phil Richards & Clinton Osborn taking the minor placing’s.

Sportsman Heavy (INSPERATIONS 3D PAINT & COLOUR) & Super Heavy (BUZZARD RACING) were combined. Phil Curran didn’t have it all his own way, although he finished first on points ahead of David Coultan with Troy Brown 3rd, Mitchell Blanch 4th, Kris Bail 5th. Super Heavy was a one-man race with Dennis Tyrrell taking home the winnings.

Rotax Max Challenge points were on offer for both DD2 & DD2 Masters (I.K.D.). Thomas MacDonald took out the win in DD2, Lucas Ward 2nd, Jason Pringle 3rd, Shannon Mclaine 4th & Scott May finishing in 5th.

DD2 Masters, Brent Coghlan 1st with the other places keenly fought out between Scott Connole 2nd, Jose Ruiz having a win in the final & finishing 3rd overall, Stephen Hampson 4th & Brett Cowley 5th.

Well that’s it; The Pacific Coast Titles is done & dusted for another year. Fantastic weather over the three days made for a great meeting for the 94 competitors, the track was fast & the racing close with some great battles taking place in all classes over the entire weekend.

The huge prize draw held before the presentation was very popular with almost everyone leaving with a prize of some sort and the grand prize of an ARROW X1-E chassis going to a lucky & very surprised Tamworth local who races at Port regularly. Well done & congratulations to all the winners & place getters (results will be posted soon on the clubs web site www.portmacquariekartclub.com.au).

PMKRC would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended on the weekend along with our very generous sponsors, and to all those who assisted in the smooth running and organization of this event - your tireless input is very much appreciated. Also, we can't forget the officials, flaggies & canteen staff (who were kept busy & did an excellent job all weekend feeding the masses).Thank you all once again & hope to see you all again next year.
