Intro To Karting For Grammar School

press release

During a rare off weekend during the month of May, d'Orlando Racing Corp., in coordination with Tim Hannen of Hannen Motorsports, hosted a track day for over forty drivers at one of the premiere facilities in the Northeast, Oakland Valley Race Park (OVRP). Taking a group of seventeen kids between five and ten years old, and their parents trackside, Michael and Nicholas d'Orlando used their skills and leadership for an evening of 'Introduction to Karting'.

"It was a great night out for the kids and their families," explained Sherri d'Orlando after the event concluded in the night of Friday May 11th. "There was an introduction to the sport, driver assessment as well as some lead/follow exercises performed by Michael and Nicholas."

While the group of classmates and their families from the Iona Grammar School in New Rochelle, New York got accustomed to a real racing kart, and not the normal rental karts they ride for amusement, track time was plentiful as the event ran well into the evening.

D'Orlando continued, "This was the first experience of outdoor road course racing for all in attendance. It was a great way for our kids to show their peers and their families a different activity from the normal stick and ball sports that are seen in today's world. This sport, especially at the level we compete in, is often difficult for others to comprehend, making it sometimes a little challenging socially for young drivers outside the race track. We felt this was a great way and opportunity to educate people about karting, and also enjoy time with their friends at home."

While drive fitment and basic instruction was performed by Tim Hannen of Hannen Motorsports, Michael and Nicholas d'Orlando worked with the new drivers on track to provide some wheel-to-wheel racing experience.

DRC would like to thank the staff from OVRP, Hannen Motorsports, as well as J3 Competition, for the all the help and support during this first time event.
