Formula K Impresses On CIK Stars of Karting Debut

press release

Formula K chassis has made an impressive CIK Stars of Karting debut at round 3 at the Ipswich kart club in KZ2 class. Formula K AUS driver Lee Mitchener started off the event in great fashion finishing Friday official practice  nearly 2 tenths quicker than the rest of his compeitors and the only drive to go into the 46 second bracket that day driving his FK02 model Formula K chassis.

Saturday started well with 2nd position  in qualifying and then 1st in the top 5 shoot out to start pole position for the three qualifying heats. The heats went well for the Formula K AUS driver scoring two 1st positions and a 4th to finish the day on top of classifications and start off pole for Sunday's final 1.

Final 1 saw bad luck strike with a leaking radiator in final 1. After dropping as low 7th Lee managed to climb his way back to 5th but with soaring engine temperatures it made very hard work. Final 2 saw Lee involved in contact on lap 4 while running in the lead group. After dropping back to 8th position Lee fought hard to charge back to 5th and produce speed that would have put him  on the podium if luck was with him early in the race.

Calum Walker also made his Formula K debut in KF3. Calum showed great speed during Friday's practice. Calum's weekend was hampered by body problem but managed to climb his way to as high as 7th in final 2 until he was taken out of the race. He now looks forward to his debut with Formula K AUS team at next round of Pro Tour in Junior MAX at Warwick in the coming weeks.

"We had high expectations after yesterday's results. But after what happened to us in both final early we are very happy to come away with fifth. It is great to be mixing it with the best this weekend. To put a kart on the track with only 30 laps on it and go put and qualify pole is a very decent effort by all involved. We closed the gap to the Championship leader this weekend and that's what we came here to do" said Formula K AUS driver Lee Mitchener.

"It was a great weekend to be involved in Formula K in Australia this weekend. After the 30 odd laps we did 3 days prior to the event at Todd Road we knew we had a great kart but to actually go out there qualify pole and have a couple of heat wins is extremely satisfying. We are all looking forward to the next round at Eastern Creek. There will be plenty of testing done in the mean time to understand the kart better and help perform better next round" Formula KAustralia's Jace Lindstrom added.
