Kingsley Keeps 2012 Momentum Heading to Mosport

press release

Jeffery Kingsley, the reigning Canadian National Rotax Mini Max Champion, returns to his home track of Mosport International Karting this weekend with some great results and major momentum.

From nearby Port Hope, Ontario, the 14-year-old driver, in his first season of junior class racing, was near the top of the time sheets at the recent double-header regional event held at the Circuit ICAR just outside Montreal on the grounds of the Mirabel Airport. The street-style permanent track proved a handful for many drivers, but Kingsley was able to master the curbing and bring home some great results for the SRA Karting/Birel team.

Kingsley opened the 2012 season with a pair of top fives at Goodwood Kartways taking fourth on Saturday and fifth on Sunday. A trip east to Quebec saw Kingsley and driver coach Ben Cooper Jr. roll into ICAR for the Coupe de Quebec and ECKC double header. On Saturday in the Coupe de Quebec Championship event, Kingsley crossed the line in second place and then was awarded the win post race as the first kart to cross the line was excluded from the event.

Sunday was another hot and sunny day on the concrete surface of Mirabel and Kingsley looked good for another solid performance. He would go sixth quickest in timed qualifying for a row three starting spot. Starting from the tricky outside lane, Kingsley did an amazing job avoiding the turn one melee and put his head down to take fourth at the line. A fantastic final had Kingsley closing in on the leaders in the final laps of the race. The talented teen took third at the stripe and a second trip to the podium on the weekend.

"The start of the season has been great. So far we have not finished lower then seventh in six regional finals," comments the 14-year-old driver. "The weekend at ICAR was amazing as our SRA Karting/Birel was perfect. You had to get the curbs just right and we definitely had the right setup for the track."

Kingsley will head to Mosport for testing this week, working again with veteran European tuner Ben Cooper Sr. The duo have quietly been building a solid points haul that sees the rookie driver sitting second in the overall ECKC points chase after three rounds of racing. This weekend's double-header will be critical to the last dash to the title and a spot on Team Canada.

"This weekend at Mosport should be good," comments Kingsley. "It's a track I know well and it's close to home. Working again with Ben Sr. will be great."

The Eastern Canadian Karting Championship takes on the Mosport International Karting Complex located at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park this Canada Day weekend. Racing action gets underway on Friday with official testing followed by two days of complete racing action.
