Kosmic Racing Australia Victorious at Eastern Creek

The Kosmic Racing Australia Pro Light (KF1) drivers had an up and down weekend at Round Four of the Castrol EDGE CIK Stars of Karting Series at Sydney’s Eastern Creek International Karting Raceway in Sydney.
Friday proved difficult for two of the drivers Matt Waters and Daniel Holihan with some engine issues setting them back in their testing. Cian Fothergill was fast as usual and would qualify second quickest in the first round of qualifying. The top Five Shootout would not suit Cian’s Kosmic kart and its set up and he slipped to 4th but the team was still very confident that he and the Kosmic Mercury frame would have the tools to dominate the weekend.
Waters continued to struggle with the conditions and his lack of track time prior to the event, but he was very determined to get everything working right and the team worked with him to get the set up that suited him. Matt drove a very good race in the final to put his Kosmic Mercury into fifth position.
Holihan also struggled for track time due to a few engine issues, but when it came to the final he set his fastest ever lap around the Eastern Creek circuit after bolting on an engine kindly loaned to him from Richard Erdmann.
Fothergill looked to have the weekend in his grasp until an errant wheel came off in heat two, he won heat one by a commanding margin and also dominated heat three cruising to an easy victory.
Final One was for the NSW state title and Fothergill was looking very good in the opening stages of the race only to have a engine issue that he himself said was his fault.
As a result the Queenslander started at the very back of the grid for the final that would decide the winner of the Franco Guaitoli Memorial Shield. This shield is very important to the Kosmic Racing Australia team as at the last round of the series “all” the team drivers wore black arm bands in honour of Franco who was Sabrina Luciani’s father. The 2010 Series Champion drove a fantastic race passing at will to lead the way he was then passed by another Kosmic driver (Daniel Rochford) Fothergill fought back and took the lead again and the win.
In Pro Junior (KF3) the team was again in the thick of the action. Dimtiri Agathos was very fast qualifying in fifth in the first round of qualifying and then fourth in the shootout Agathos was then caught up in some other drivers foolish driving this would see the team repairing the kart after nearly every race. Again in the final the Sydneysider drove very well and got himself from the back of the grid to fourth only to again be in the wrong place at the wrong time with another driver making contact with him taking him out of the race.
Lachlan Gibbons had his best result so far recording a brilliant 5th place in the final. Gibbons proved to be very competitive all weekend. His drive in the final was very mature and shows very good signs for his future.
While new to the team Joshua Smith has fitted in very well and this showed on the track. The Townsville driver chipped away all weekend and found some good pace at the end recording a seventh place, with another year left in the category Joshua will be very hard to beat next year.
Tom Chitty arrived at Eastern Creek with ever turning a lap around the iconic circuit in a KF3 kart, Tom has only just turned 13 and opted to run Pro Light (KF3) instead of finishing the year in Junior National Heavy where he was leading the points. Although Tom had a tough weekend he learnt plenty and will be a lot faster at Todd Rd for the last round.
Matt Boylan, the team’s Leopard heavy driver finished in 4th position “again” he showed some great pace and the best thing for him is his position in the championship is now second!
