Preview: Whyalla Kart Club Championship, Round 4

from Dave Camwell

After a 2 month break from the Championship rounds due to the Whyalla Open and the Whyalla City Titles being run and won, the drivers will be back this Saturday 4th of August to concentrate on accumulating points in the next five rounds, so they can be crowned Champions in their respective classes at the end of the year.

Eight rounds in total can be contested, with the drivers dropping their worst 2 rounds, which gives everyone an opportunity to miss rounds due to being absent, such as working shift work.

Currently the drivers leading the following classes are:

Sportsman SA - Darrol Jones - 145 points
All Powers Handicap - Dennis Cumerlato - 139 points
Restricted 125 and Clubman Light - Bev Watson - 135 points
Restricted 125 and Clubman Heavy - Allan Watts - 142 points
Junior National Light - Isabella Cumerlato - 146 points
Cadets - Cooper Jones - 148 points

Consistency in attending race meetings and finishing races is the key to stay at the top of the list. A clean sweep of round wins will attract a total of 400 points, minus the dropping of two rounds (50 points per round) in the case a maximum of 300 points. Can any of the drivers manage this? It would be some feat if they did and could possibly be named the Club Champion of Champions.

Come on out and watch some exciting, close wheel to wheel racing with these drivers bums sitting less than an inch from the ground on the tight 520mtr bitumen track, reaching speeds of 95kph.

The canteen has plenty of food and drinks, including alcohol (NO BYO) and don’t forget your designated driver, so why not kick back, relax and check out what karting has to offer.

Racing starts at 1pm and finishes at dusk, the track location is on the Port Lincoln Highway, 5km’s out of town on the left, look for the light towers and signage out the front.
