Photographer Accreditation For AKA Events

  11 October 2012

Following our call to cover more club level racing, and having contributors submit reports and photos to KartSportNews, it’s timely to remind budding photographers of their responsibilities when snapping pics at AKA sanctioned events.

The Australian Karting Association requires photographers who are in areas other than spectator areas, to possess the correct accreditation to be covered for insurance purposes.

“Previously, photographers have had to hold their own public liability insurance policy” AKA Media & Marketing Manager Lee Hanatschek told KartSportNews.

“Last year we got that changed to make it a very simple procedure to become accredited and covered by insurance.”

If people who are not already accredited wish to take photos out on the circuit, they need to complete the appropriate form (see below, and include a passport style photo), pay the $120 fee and follow the Photography Accreditation Guidelines.

“People can't race without a licence, because they’re not insured” Hanatschek  added. “So if someone is not accredited to be out on the circuit, they're not insured either.”

“We’re going to be getting very hot on this over the next few months because it seems some clubs have their own rules when it comes to photographers. But if one of them gets hurt, there’s going to be a problem for not just them but the club and the sport as a whole.”

Also, even if a karter holds an AKA race licence, they will still need the appropriate photographer accreditation to venture out onto the circuit for photographic purposes.

Taking photos from spectator areas does not require accreditation.

This process only applies to AKA events.
