Karting News Briefs

  11 November 2012

karting brèves du monde entier:

  • The U18 World Championship round this week was the first time new RFID technology for tyres was used in a world competition. Two years in development by LeCont tyres, each tyre is fitted with a chip which gets identified when it goes under a detection portal. Currently, the tyres get identified on the way too or back from the grid, but the technology will soon allow detection when the karts are actually running on the track, and will also log the number of kilometres each tyre has run. "It is obvious that this technology will be used well beyond Karting in the coming years” stated CIK-FIA Vice-President, Kees van de Grint.

  • A 'Day Two Diary' from Joseph Mawson has been posted on the AKA website HERE. It summarises his qualifying and heat races (ie, before he knew he was going to win the main Final!).

  • The AKA website also has updated technical documents for the three Rotax classes (Snr, Jnr & DD2). After approval at the October NKC meeting, the three documents have been updated by the removal of reference to ‘rings’ as non tech items. Click HERE to access the docs.

  • The Karting NSW State Office will close 12pm on Friday December 21 through to 9am on Monday 14 January 2013 for the annual Christmas / New Year break.

  • Australian karters get free entry to the 'Australia V The Kiwis' Trans Tasman Challenge at Palmeston North in February of next year:
