Karting News Briefs

  5 December 2012

Snippets from anywhere...

  • I debated whether to publicise this link, as its content is a bit of a depressing slap in the face for many young and budding racers who want to make a professional career out of race car driving. Unfortunately, what Alex Lloyd has written in his article 'How To Earn A Shit-Ton Of Cash As A Pro Racecar Driver' is more than a little bit accurate. The link is HERE. Remember, boys and girls, do it for love and enjoyment - not the money... (and stay karting).

  • Points and placings for the 2012 Vic AllStar Series have now been published. Trophies for each class will be awarded at the VKA Presentation Night in Melbourne on December 15. Click HERE to find the link to full series points and placings for each class on the VKA site.

  • Former Rotax Pro Tour and CIK karter Renee Gracie will be the first female to contest the Porsche Carrera Cup when she competes in the category next year. The 17-year old has been part of the Fujitsu 'Cool' Driver Program since its inception in 2010. She will soon test an Andy McElrea Racing prepared car and makes her debut at the Clipsal 500. "We're all about giving youngsters a go and on the back of what Scott (McLaughlin) has achieved by jumping so successfully from karting to V8 Supercars, we're excited to be supporting Renee's progression into Porsche Carrera Cup" said Fujitsu's Deputy Managing Director, Philip Perham.

  • The Dutch AVG Team, and its lead driver Arnoud Kozlinski, will switch from PCR to Birel for its attack on the 2013 international season. The team will continue to use TM engines in KZ. No other drivers have yet been officially announced for the other KZ seat, or for the KF classes, although Vroom reports that Anton Van Grunsven may get the gig of lead KF driver.

  • Kartlink reports a new racing facility is planned to be built in South Wales. The project will include an FIA approved race circuit, plus MSA/CIK approved kart track. A contractor has now been appointed on a design-and-build basis. A bit more about it on circuitofwales.com.
