Lismore's 2015 Young Guns Titles

by Geoff Salmon, Sportsvoice 20 April 2015

An amazing week-end of sunshine and hot conditions welcomed 117 competitors from all along the East Coast of Australia, along with their spanner men, families and friends to the 19th consecutive running of the Young Guns Titles for 2015.

The weather man had indicated the possibility of showers later on Sunday afternoon, these were not to eventuate, drivers and spanner men alike worked feverishly to make the necessary adjustments to ensure the best results on track, the week-end started with qualifying followed by two heats of racing then a prefinal and a final only to count on Sunday afternoon.

The Committee had lived up to all expectations with huge support from a plethora of sponsors to ensure that every driver would walk away with great memories of the event.

All junior classes were included in the title event, starting at the first of the new class’s for 2015 Cadet 9, Cadet 9 Provisional drivers were also given the opportunity to compete against drivers of the same standard, in a separate event, next Cadet 12 with Cadet 12 Provisional drivers also giving the same opportunity as the Cadet 9 drivers.

Next we had the always popular Junior National Light class, and this year, different to last year, where a mid –weight class for the Junior National Light class was presented, the Club gave the C and D grade licence holders the opportunity to compete alone, leaving the more experienced B grade and A grade drivers to race for the title without the more inexperienced drivers being involved.

A small field of Junior Clubman drivers presented to ensure all junior classes would be on hand, the feature class Junior Max had all eyes and ears watching and listening for the final field numbers and by 4 pm Friday afternoon with a field 32 stretching the track density to its limits everyone was looking forward to seeing which driver would receive the converted free test drive in a Formula Ford presented by Tim Peale from Anglo Australia Motorsport.

After an eventful Friday we were to see the J Max field reduced to thirty runners, the Manager of the Lismore City Council Mr Gary Murphy officially opened the meeting at eight thirty Saturday morning and the Young Guns            Titles for 2015 was under way.

Due to the photos from Coopers Photography having not arrived at the time of this report, photos are not included in this report. The results of another successful Young Guns Title would not be complete without mentioning and thanking our major Sponsors: St George Kart Centre Wholesale Pty Ltd, Ian Black from International Karting Distributors, Paul Feeney and the Paul Feeney Group, CRG, Dunlop Kart Sports, Herne’s Freight Services, Super Cheap Auto Lismore and Ballina, and a plethora of local class sponsors unfortunately too many to mention in this report. Our sincere thanks for your support and we look forward to seeing you back again in 2016.
