if it's karting, it's relevant...

  • The man who mentored and tuned engines for Ayrton Senna in his early years of karting, Lucio Pascual Gascon - affectionately known as Tchê, has died. The Brazilian legend suffered a heart attack on Sunday in São Paulo. Tchê was in Australia last year. "We were supremely blessed to have had Che come to Australia last year to attend the Australian Vintage Kart Prix and for us to be with him when he celebrated Ayrton's birthday and also Angelo Parrilla's birthday" the Queensland Vintage and Historic Karting group posted on Facebook. "The two men were the very best of comrades having the feelings of a father towards Ayrton and we saw the raw emotion of that in Ipswich. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family of Tche and particularly Ricardo Pascual who accompanied him here from Brazil and did the honour of driving a lap in honour of Tche's greatest student, Ayrton Senna."

  • This weekend's Southern City Classic at Oakleigh has been amended to be a Saturday-only one-day meeting. The club advises that due to some classes not forming, several will be combined so that all karters still get to race. Classes to run (this is not the race order) are Cadet 9/Cadet 12 (combined), Junior National Light, Junior Nation Heavy, Junior Clubman, Clubman Light/Clubman Heavy (combined), TAG Light/TAG Heavy (combined) and TAG Restricted Light/TAG Restricted Heavy (combined). Track will open 6:30am, entry confirmation from 7:15am to 8:30am. Format is Unofficial Practice/Timed Practice/Heat 1/Heat 2/PreFinal/Final. The event will still be a great shakedown for the Victorian Kart Championship round there on May 15 to 17 and the track will be open for practice on Sunday.

  • Official program for this weekend's Rotax Pro Tour round at Albury is now online. It includes the full entry list, event time table, IKD truck hours, the top ten in points for each class, plus 20 Questions with Junior MAX driver Reece Sidebottom. Click HERE to check it out!

  • Junior Hotshots at the Jimmy Patterson Memorial next month:

  • AIDKA has issued a rule clarification about 125cc karts being re-started on the race track, where, in the spirit of the sport, pushers and external starters are allowed to assist:

  • Top Queensland karter Ben Stewart jetted off to the United States today to contest the SKUSA Pro Tour, commencing with the "SpringNationals" at the Formula K Raceway in Phoenix this weekend. He will race with US Arrow importer, Kartsport North America.

  • Neat shed! Builder of replica race karts, South Australia's Glenn Davidson, says he's started to deck out his shed with 90s-style karting memorabilia. At the bottom is a CRG Heron shifter kart and Tony Kart Esprit.

  • Need extra incentive to compete in the Victorian Country Series? Remo Racing and DPE Kart Technology are supporting Junior Clubman and Clubman Heavy classes in the series with some great prizes - one set of free MG Reds drawn for each Clubman class at the round, and the overall series winner will get a $500 IAME voucher. A minimum of 10 entries are required, so get organised and enter for round 3 of the series at Warrnambool on May 10.

  • Zanardi Corse Australia has just received the latest shipment of NEK seats and carbon floor trays. Contact them for more information on these products.

  • CRG's Centurian rental kart has become the first - and according to CRG, so far the only - kart to receive CE (European Conformity) safety certification. "This conformity has been obtained by CRG through the application of specific internal design and manufacturing procedures that have been certified by specific recordings and tests performed by third party approved and qualified entities" the company stated.

  • A new nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in the karting community through hardship or other tragedy has popped up on Facebook. There is currently very little detail available about "Karting Community United", but could be worth keeping an eye on. It is well known within racing that members of the karting community stand by each other beyond what happens on the race track.

  • Live timing for the Rotax Pro tour round this weekend:

  • F100 90s 2015 British Championship Round 1 - a grid full of 100cc stunners at Hooton Park kicked off the F100 90s British Championship for 2015.
