Tassie & NT Championships Now "Opens"

  29 May 2015

Karting Australia has confirmed the 2015 Northern Territory and Tasmanian Championships will be open for competitors from all across the country to enter.

"The decision provides Karting Australia’s two smallest Member Associations the best opportunity to host a successful event with increased numbers" KA said in a press release.

State Championships for all the other states will continue to be 'closed' and available only to licence holders of the host state.

“Due to the limited number of licence holders in both Northern Territory and Tasmania, Karting Australia has allowed interstate competitors to enter these two Championships to ensure the events are significant successes,” said Karting Australia CEO Kelvin O’Reilly.

It will be interesting to see the level of interstate support for these meetings, particularly considering the titles will be awarded from a single standalone event.

“Both host clubs, Darwin and Launceston, are working hard on putting on great events and we will do everything we can to assist them with making the Championships successful.

“We look forward to seeing drivers from various parts of the country support these two events in special parts of Australia.”

The Northern Territory event, to be held in Darwin on July 11/12, will also feature a ‘Dash for Cash’ where $9,000 in cash will be shared amongst the podium finishers.  For the first time ever the KZ3 class will also be contested around the Hidden Valley circuit.

The Launceston Kart Club will host the Tasmanian Kart Championship on the third weekend in November (21-23).  This venue has previously hosted the stand-alone National Championships on two occasions.

The Supplementary Regulations for the Northern Territory Championships will be available shortly.
