Vic Superkarts Round 4

press release 12 July 2015

Round Four of the 2015 Victorian Superkart Club series was held on Saturday July 11 at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit in what the club knew would be low on entries due to Round One of the Australian Superkart Championships being held at Sydney’s Motorsport park the weekend before.

What we didn’t count on was the Antarctic blast that threatened to hit as well. While the day was certainly cold the real harsh weather held off with only heat 3 being declared wet.

250cc Nationals:

Tyler Williams stepped back into his Uncle Dale’s kart to get some valuable laps under his bum prior to his full time drive next year. Raff Pironti spent the best part of the day chasing gremlins with his wet setup obviously the best.

125cc National:

Garry Haywood decided that a run at the Island would sort out his issues from the previous weekend in Sydney managing to hold on to first place despite a DNF in the final while Todd Gardner and Shane Fewster scrapped over the minor placings.

Lee Filliponi made a welcome return to the class following an illness to run in a new motor package and get his own fitness back up to scratch. (Well done Lee).

N.G.B. Rotax Light:

It was the dominant Ace Karting Team of Russ Occhipinti and Sanuja Perera who fought hard all day with Brayden Bailey, Tim Clarke and Travis Jones trying to break the party up.

N.G.B Rotax Heavy:

Rod Clarke found some return of form in conditions that clearly suited him while Geoff Lawrence found a bug that he could not shake and newcomer Jeremy Crust ended up with a pretty good result.

Stock Honda:

This class continues to impress with the closeness of racing, everyone in the field except for Stephen Morling were at it Hammer and tongs but in the end it was Justin (Juzzy) Ford who stamped his authority on the day.

The club hopes the weather will improve for our next event at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit (September  15 & 16) which will be a Nationals for the N.G.B. Rotax and Stock Honda classes plus a State Championship for the 250 and 125 gearbox classes.

Interest from other States has been very strong which will provide for some great racing and larger fields across all classes.

The event is one month out from Round Two of the Australian Superkart Championships and many of the leading drivers  from that series have announced their intention to enter and gain some valuable data.
