Vic Country Series, Round 5

Round 5 of the 2015 AUSTRANS Victorian Country Series took place at the Handbury Kart titles last week at the Hamilton Kart Club. The penultimate round of the championship had 120 starters greet the starter setting up a great final round of the championship.

TAG Heavy and Junior National Heavy

Scott King and Cody Donald both took big wins in their respective classes setting up championship wins before the final round. King was challenged throughout the day by Ryan Aitken but was able to take the win and the clean sweep and his fourth round win of the series over Aitken with Jacob Bell rounding out the top three. Donald, who has dominated the country series, arguably took his best win of the series taking out every race by over 5 seconds taking his fifth consecutive round win! Michael Clemente came home with another second spot over Alex Baker in third.

Junior National Light and Junior Clubman

Jackson Rees and Ben Delaney were able to take dominant wins in their respective classes. Rees, who hadn’t taken a round win since the opening round in Portland, put his step forward to taking out the series by taking a big win. Jason Bowyer was able to come home in second with a storming drive with Jaxson Cox rounding out the podium. Delaney, who hadn’t taken a round win in the series, was another to clean sweep his respective class with superior speed. Max Vidau and Cody Donald both had second places with Vidau coming home in second spot ahead of Donald.

TAG Restricted Light and Cadet 12

Jimmy Mason and Jobe Stewart took their first round wins of the Victorian Country series!  Mason, who hadn’t won a race, was able to make a last lap gasp move over Tom Owen in a nail biting final with Jordan Rae, Brock Rae and Brayden Flood all featuring in the battle for the win. Mason won over Owen and Jordan Rae. Stewart was another to have his work cut out with himself, Hugo Simpson, Bronson Boult and Matthew Domanchenz all in the battle. Boult spun off late in the final allowing Stewart to take the win over a close Simpson and Domaschenz in third.

Sportsman Restricted Super Heavy and TAG Light

Nathan Van Es and Brad Marsh both took fantastic wins In their respective classes in highly competitive fields. Van Es was able to take pole position over Victorian champion Andrew Hayes and Michael Angwin. Angwin and Hayes come together on the opening corner of the final! Van Es was able to take a strong clean sweep over Angwin and Peter Sloan with Hayes recovering for fifth. Marsh took his second consective round win bringing himself into championship contention with rival Ash Lear. Marsh was able to take another round win over Aaron Jackson in second after making a pass to beat Lear with the later coming home in third.

Clubman Heavy

Clubman Heavy was again the race of the weekend with championship contender Chris Thomas, Senior graduate Aaron Jackson and Victorian Champion Remo Luciani. Thomas and Luciani shared the heat wins setting up a screamer of a final. With both drivers taking turns of leading the final with Jackson hot on the heals. Luciani again found a way to hold off a charging Thomas and Jackson in third position.

Cadet 9 and TAG Restricted Heavy

Christian Cowie and John Dankowski were the final winners of the day with both having their work cut out in a competitive classes. Cowie had challenges from pole position driver Jaxson Johnstone and heat 1 winner Anton Hortis. In another great final the newly crowned state champion was able to take the round win and put himself in good contention to take the championship out! Hortis was able to take second over Johnstone in third.

Dankowski was in a great battle all day with championship leader Nicholas Wortley both taking a heat win each. In a close battle all final, Dankowski was able to hold off Wortley for the round win setting a great final round with Craig Widgery rounding out the podium.

The final round will take place at the South West Kart Club where the 2015 Victorian Country Series champions will be decided and $15,000 of trophies, cash and prizes will be awarded.
